Railway

The chap who raced the automatic Rover 3500 (old shape) with auto box was Robert MacArthur. Does it ring a bell?

That's the guy - I have been wracking my brains!

Along similar visual lines, there was a chap Cameron who raced a Truimph 2500PI, also white.

Remember Owen Ashley in the copper coloured Triumph 2.5 PI? Hell that must have in about 1968.

What would we do without the AMC forum to keep us up to date - I didn't even know that Paddy O'S was no longer with us. Knew him from the days when he was still a Volvo fanatic. Des Ashurst tells me that he had a brain tumour, and within 6 months he was gone.

Talking about keeping up to date - you ou's from up-country must help us backward mense in the 'Kaap" - keep us informed!!

Yip Gunter is certainly very lucky to have a piece of History like that,
I think the car is too nice to race all the time but it would be awsome to see it hear it at the Piper Days or 1 or 2 other historic events. It could even be used as a pace car for a big historic event. If anyone can ever remember that cars engine sound at the old kyalami there is still nothing even today that sounds as awsome as that old Rover sounded.

I would love to do my car as a replica of that car but I dont think it would be right to have a replica.

I have followed that car since it came to SA. Funnily enough when I did my first ever driving instruction course at the REAL old Kyalami in 1987 Dick Sorenson was racing the O'Sullivan Rover at the time, it was painted red then and who did I get as my instructor for the day?? none other than Dick Sorenson and I happened to be driving a Rover SDE auto at the time and this was the car we used for the day. The other instructors ripped him off due to him picking the student with a Rover, he he, was an awsome day to say the least.

Gunter, just a matter of interest. I managed to get a copy of the original 1984 FIA homologation papers on the Rover Group A for the roll cage specifications of the time,. I am going to do my cars cage as per those specs.

Cheers

Gavin
