It's not a matter of having a lot of money. That garage could easily be duplicated up here by any gearhead that's handy with a hammer and table saw. I would bet the guy has maybe US$40K in that garage if he did most of the work himself. The before shots look like any rundown garage you can find in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, etc.,... If you live in the rural areas, you can buy places like that for $10K-$20K or less. What makes building a garage like that possible are LOW taxes, few construction restrcitions in many areas (if you can build it safely then no one will stop you), and low costs of the products needed to build that garage. From my travels around, I'm always amazed at how much like items costs in other countries....and I'm even more amazed at the taxes that get tacked on. Many of those items, like the flooring and shelving are fairly inexpensive from dealers online or even at places like Lowe's or Home Depot.

cost of building in SA has gona up considerably as well as taxes, not to mention problems with eskom :roll:
anyway people are having to take lifestyle cuts as we speak, and it looks like tough times will continue.
