Re: LOCALLY BUILT V8 FORDS
Some pictures of the cars I mentioned. These can be added to the list on the websites front page. The pics of my Cosworth can also be put on the front page.I will see if I can get some more pics of the Local Cosworths.
I will still get some pics of the Novel Ford Sapphire V8
These V8 Sapphires are the ones most people refer to as Cosworth which is totally incorrect. They were badged as a 5.0L.and some had te Cosworth alloy rims fitted.
I think this is the reason the BG built Sapphire Cosworth is so unknown.
I know of another Grosvenor/Novel Sapphire with a 351Cleveland but I am not sure if the owner maybe fitted the 351 himself
Grosvenor Ford built Sapphire
JT Developments built V8 Sierra and Sapphire.I have been told that the Sierra V8 based on the MK2 body was the only one ever built. I dont know if this is true or not.
Sapphire V8
And a picture of my friends dads CanAm Firenza
It has non original wheels on

Hi Gavin
Do you know any of the details for the CanAm?
Feel free to pass on my details for the owner to contact so we can add another car to the group.
Cheers

Maybe non original..but I just love those wheels..Great wheels on a great car
Great pics of some very rare Sapphires
Great pics of some very rare Sapphires
There is no replacement for cubic inches....
Re: LOCALLY BUILT V8 FORDS
There is a possibility that Can Am is the one I drove up to Pretoria from Cape Town in the 90's. With some more detail I may be able to clear that bit of trivia up.
Car was brought to Cape Town then sold out of Cape Town again.

Re: LOCALLY BUILT V8 FORDS
The Novel Ford Saphire V8's if I remember correctly were 302's and T5 gearboxes. The Courier's were built the same. When I was involved as pitmac in Group N we had one of them a long wheel base XLT Novel Ford Courier V8. It was previously a tow van for Giniel De Villiers when he was a privateer (presently Dakar racer). They had done about 80 000 km of which most was towing a race car and replaced one box with the second box singing when we got it. Today one hardly see's such a bakkie if any still exist. I have seen another which was built on the short wheel base model Courier.
I travelled many miles towing a race car and fully loaded with wheels and tools in the van. Now and then not towing and it must be the most pleasurable experience I had tearing across vaste Africa to and fro race weekends. We used to two at illegal speeds which then caused that you did'nt risk going more than 200 lm distance without filling up as it then processed fuel at a quick rate. The good thing about that was that one was always forced to stop at maximum 300 km by which chances you were almost sure to have run out of petrol.
I've never been in the Saphire version of the Novel Ford V8 conversion. But if the Courier was any hint the car must have been fantastic and well balances special.

Re: LOCALLY BUILT V8 FORDS
Gavin try find out where that Can Am came from. It's bugging me now as I am almost certain it's the one I "lived" in for 18 hours from Cape Town to Pretoria. Which was through mid Summer in high temperatures having to even turn the interior heater on to score a bit of radiator capacity of the heater radiator.
I'd like to know for interests sake as I always wondered what happened to that car. Who ever has it I can add some information or history to it.
