Cape Hell Drivers (The Goodwood days)

Post by Those-were-the-days » Sat 16 Jun 2012, 23:10

I came across many posts relating to the cape hell Drivers (Jan 2011) and noticed the keen interest in history, photos and general info. We ("Those-were-the-days") are in search for all the info and photos we can lay our hand on. Would also like to know if anyone has direct contact information on any of the drivers (V8's 1968-1986) and anybody else for that matter ie pit crews, mechanics and marshals etc.

We are in the process of creating an exclusive website dedicated to the "Goodwood Raceway" which will present a full account of the formation of the Cape Hell Drivers, pictures of cars static and in action as well as drivers and there profiles / accomplishments and a whole lot of applicable and interesting information.

Naturally we would need a lot of input from all and sundry to make this website successful so we would be grateful for any content you can provide. Our website has been registered and hosted and now awaits content. Please submit your contributions to info@pagesmart.za.net

We will post information about our website as it progresses.

Regards to all

If you speak to Ernst Van Gooswillegen on 083 288 4805. He will put you in contact with his dad, which in his late 80's. The oldman was a yster in those days in the motorracing scene.

My father was a Hell Driver. He used to race sprint cars and even used to take me to a few races there back in the mid 80s when I was a kid. He still have his Hell Drivers blazer

Every body still talk about the "good old days at Goodwood" , but do not make a effort of going to watch the racing at CHD lately. 2 weekends ago some of Tygerberg raceway's dirt 1660 drivers was there for an unofficial challange and the racing was like a warzone. When one can smell the brakes and clutches from the stands, one can imagine how hard the racing is. This weekend it carries on at Tygerberg raceway when some of the CHD guys go visit them and later the season, I believe, they will all go to B'dorp to carry on their fight on neutral ground. All this is in good spirit and believe me, the guys dont give each other a inch on the track. For a spectator, this is awsome.
