Almost impossible to find good 2nd hand chev boxes that are bolt one , you have to go to another make other than chev (actually holden) .. these days , its probably better to fabricate from another make. Elkie without power steering is a dog to park etc.

Check for a vacuum leak or fuel perculation when the engine gets hot

first thing to look for is a vacuum leak. Especially with a carb/intake change

Old school 454 is the ticket

Go old school rather - unless you enjoy tearing your hair out...

Speak to Brian Bright in CT -- he did a 280ZX with a small block and can probably tell you all about pitfalls etc.
Go with old school , the electronic motors and boxes are a major schlep to hook up.
