Hi All, Heat treatment on old springs to compress, is liable to end up in the spring getting very brittle and cracking . Wouldn't recommend it. Cutting a coil off though seems to cause the spring to get softer?? Any body riding on cut springs care to comment ?? I'd suggest anyone thinking about cut...

Not sure what you mean by "on top of the tappet cover and that has been hooked up to the exhaust", AFAIK the valve cover and exhaust shouldn't be connected.
