Hi Fairmont GT,
I have a horrible nasty sinking feeling that you've just hit the nail 100% on the head with the biggest hammer known to man.
SA351GT, was the engine 'run in' correctly ?

Re: Cam shimming
Hello again gentlemen, I like this afternoon's posts, especially the humour. :) SA351GT, where you say that it wouldn't idle smoothly prior to the dizzy being fitted, and then it was sorted. Just clarify that. I.E. Does it idle smoothly or roughly? Also, where you spoke to someone who helped build t...

Re: Cam shimming
Good afternoon SA351GT, Thank you for the apology. No worries. :) The cam specs and questions can be a bit daunting, but please try and answer the non technical questions. If you don't know an answer, no problem, but say so. The more info you provide, the easier it will be to get the picture. In add...

Re: Cam shimming
I've been pondering over this post and I'm not impressed. The first post ends with 'please help!'. Read the subsequent posts. Did Tony69 spend 5 seconds on his replies, or did he take a while and put in a fair bit of effort ? He asked a very pertinent question. Is your valve train stock ? I've asked...

Re: Cam shimming
Good morning SA351GT and Tony69, The cam manufacturers use descriptions such as noticeable, mild, rough, race, and lopey idle, in addition to their tech specs. I had a comp cams cam part number 32-221-3 in mind when I said an idle not worthy of complaint. Now that we see the valve lift is .528/.258 ...

Re: Number 3 cylinder not firing
Good morning Kavesh,
That's good news.
When you get a chance, check your total timing, and that it is reached by +/-3,250rpm.

Re: Cam shimming
Hi SA351GT, As Tony69 says, there's no such thing as shimming a cam. :( A duration of 218/218 wouldn't give an idle worthy of complaint. :) Where did you get the specific cam details from ? Have you got the make and part number of it? (Just out of curiosity) Did you own the engine prior to its rebui...

Re: Number 3 cylinder not firing
Good afternoon Kavesh, The fact that we both understand everything is a good start to the weekend ! :) For info, racing cars will have their vacuum advances blocked off completely. The earth in the dizzy was the little uncovered wire in Ty's pic, not the ignitor black wire. (Just checking.) I'd also...

Re: Number 3 cylinder not firing
Good morning Kavesh, If your idle rpm is only 'a little faster' then I can stop stressing ! I think you're definitely getting to know your engine which means you can 'hear' and 'feel' what is right or wrong, which is a good thing. I think I know what you mean when you said a piece of metal mov...

Re: Number 3 cylinder not firing
Hi Kavesh, What's next ? A coffee and a marlboro followed by a film ! I tried looking up the specs on your engine and carb earlier, but could I find any info or pics, f$$k no ? :( Your engine might be an L22 but that isn't particularly helpful! Your numbers for the idle and vacuumed idle are r...
