Re: Basil van Rooyen GTA

I remember the two Superformance enduro Alfas were driven by BvR, Chatz, Christine Bekkers (German/Belguim I think) and one other whose name slips the old mind right now. I know Keith Berrington-Smith and Tony Woodly also had a very simialr looking Alfa around that time, it may even have been prepar...

Re: Basil van Rooyen GTA

This is interesting stuff! I wonder if the BvR Alfa story in Angola is true, if it is not one of the Alfas he prepared for the Springbok series. There were a couple of them but neither were the GTA written about here (ie that raced i the SA Saloon Car Champs.) I say this because I don't know why he ...

Re: Mike Moore Jag XJ6....

Yup I think Les Johnstone did the engine. A very well sorted car, bags of Chevy power, very quick and another car that escaped Cape Town and relocated to JHB I believe. I guess a lot of bucks was put into the car, so what happended to it?

Re: Basil van Rooyen GTA

Chatz did a lot of the negotiations with Alfa in Europe and managed to get some trick parts for BvR. At the time I believe Alfa were having problems staying with the oppposition overseas with unreliable and not particularly quick cars. Basil built his GTA at Superformance with Chatz and it was so qu...

Re: ROVER V8 RACE CAR

Yes I have also never seen this Rover but I do remember reading about it. Looks beautiful, similar to the Rovers raced so successfully in the UK. Who could forget Deon de Waal and his Rover V8 showboating around Killarney and making a mockery of the opposition, going through every corner as sideways...

Re: Star Motoring Article Chev Impala 11 Jan 2008

Then I owe appologies! The way the article was written gave the impression that the car Powell races now is the restoration of Gough's car (as apposed to a replica). This then is amazing because I chatted to Peter Gough a while back and he seemed to think that the Meissner developed engine had possi...

Re: Star Motoring Article Chev Impala 11 Jan 2008

I haven't read this article so I am a bit in the dark as to its contents (PLEASE post it, someone!!) I read a report on the internet the other day that was written some time back regarding some historic cars racing at Killarney. It referred to Louis Powell "restoring Peter Gough's Meissner Escort". ...

Re: Superformance Zodiac

Daan - I also like the Corsair. Neat and clean lines. I think in the racing world it got a bit 'lost' due to the hype of the Lotus Cortinas at the time. I would love to find one to put into classics on the track. Strangely when I was thinking of this the other day in traffic, I saw a lovely example ...

Re: Superformance Zodiac

This Zodiac story is interesting. I can remember seeing Trevor Blokdyk racing the car once at Killarney. In my then little mind, it seemed quick but it was not a reliable car and I doubt competed in more than a couple of races. That is why pictures are so scarce. Blokdyk was of course a very success...

Re: 1963 Ford Galaxie Bob Olthoff

The Galaxie is an awesome tank. It handles like a dog and wallows around under braking. On Sunday at Killarney it was raining and it is so powerfull that Sarel could wheelspin at anypoint down the main straight. It is actually damn dangerous. In the rain Cindy Evans' Renault R8 gave him a hard time ...
