Re: Olthoff Perana V8

So having got excited at seeing the ex-Olthoff A2 Perana (numbered 71 at present) at the Killarney Historics pre-practice, it was started up and then never to be seen again. Z181 raced in only one race I think and also disappeared. I saw the replica Gunston Cortina Perana for the first time - what a...

Olthoff Perana V8

Popped in to Killarney yesterday for practice for the Springbok series event this weekend to find the ex-Bob Olthoff Capri Perana doing some laps. This is the A2 Basil Green car raced by Olthoff in the Star Production car series at Kyalami. I believe a massive amount of cash was swopped for this car...

Re: Racing Fairmont??

Please don't think I am knocking Deon, because I really am not. I have always shown an interest in his racing career. In fact seeing that he is so far down the road with work on this car, I would really love to see it on the track. But it is still not in the spirit of historic / classic racing. So, ...

Re: Racing Fairmont??

With that said, Henry are you part of the racing scene or just an interested "sepctator"?

Re: Racing Fairmont??

Henry - do you know what they intend doing to get in spec for classics? I presume replace the block?

Re: The Meissner Thread

The Corsair in historics is a lovely re-creation of the original Corsair that was driven by Koos Swanepoel and Steve Botes. As I remember it was Botes who was the more regular driver and not Koos as many seem to depict. Koos had the Lotus Cortina then the Mustang around that time. Now here is the pr...

Re: Racing Fairmont??

Jeez Gunter - you must have a severe garaging problem!! You have some interesting cars. Is it your intention to get the racing cars back onto the track? And hopefully at Killarney? What sort of classes would these run in - clubmans / touring?

Re: Racing Fairmont??

I didn't finish! Dougie I also want to see that car on the track. But not as a hotrod. There is a place for it as a classic / historic racer. That car will turn out to be a F1 with a GT body making a great noise and one hell of a speed. And there is a home for that type of car on the track, but not ...

Re: Racing Fairmont??

Sure Dougie - it is Deon's car and he can do what he likes. But went we run out of limited classics in this country either thru exporting or simply basterdising them, we will all sit back and say "what a pity we didn't try and save them". It is only when they have disappeared that everyone shits the...

Re: Famous Dealers and Garages.

The Meissner setup was actually on Marine Drive in Paarden Island (looking out to the sea), the next main road below Koeberg. I stand to be corrected but I think it was called Dart Service Station and not Meissner. That of course would make sense as he was one of the three who designed and built the...
