Re: Racing Fairmont??

Hi Gunter I popped in to your shop for some kit recently. Thanks for that info on the Joubert Fairmont. Hell this is such a shame. Here is a good honest car that could have ended up as a true period classic racer, and instead Deon turns it into a hotrod. This trend is really disappointing. If he wan...

Re: 333i

I seem to remember the 333i racing for a short period but was it not banned and superceded by the 325iS (aka 327 shadowline)?

Racing Fairmont??

I noticed in either Deon Joubert's or Dave Knopke's garage (next to each other) at Killarney a Ford Fairmont on a lit being worked on. I couldn't see if it was a GT but I feel it is. Does anyone know if it is being prepared for racing or just being fixed up? On this subject does anyone know of Fairm...

Re: Racing Valiants/Chryslers

The only guy I can really think of who raced a Valiant was Pardini. I have a pic or two but copyright protects them.

Re: Famous Dealers and Garages.

Hmmm, thinking about it. Meissner was not a dealer but was a Shell garage with some hot things happening in the workshop at the back.

Re: Famous Dealers and Garages.

There was Donford run by the famous Donald Philps who was so prominent in racing single seaters in the late 50's and into the 60's. Famous for his Cooper T43 Climax. I think Donford may have become SelFord who sponsored Peter Gough in the all conquering Capri Perana V8 at Killarney. Of course Meissn...

Re: New racing history section

Hi Tiaan

I think that is the way to go. Historic racing is a big topic in itself and it is then seperate from probably what this forum started as. Clearly there is keen interest and hopefully we will have many contributions. Well done!

Re: Whereabouts of......

In an earlier posting I raised the question of the origins of Derick van Blerk's half written off racing Mustang notchback. I asked if anyone knew the history of this car and I suggested that it may previously have been owned and raced by John Amm. The suggestion was that it is Basil van Rooyen's ol...

Re: Mk 3 XLE

GT I seem to think that due to the Local Content Program imposed by the government at the time, all Fords were manufacturered locally. However the V6 engines as I remember were the Essex 3.0 which had already ben replaced by the Cologne unit in the UK. Due to costs they retained the UK engine rather...
