Re: Diff ratio changes

By far your best bet is to fit a 700r4 auto gearbox , not only will you get a 3:1 1st gear vs the TH350 2.5:1 (which will be even more fun in the robot to robot wars ) but you will also get a .7:1 overdrive , effectively making your 3.36 diff a 2.35:1 at highway speeds.

Re: Vacuum gauge

Wide open or blipping/opening the throttle always shows low vacuum , you are opening the butterflys of the carb and creating a massive air leak :) The highest vacuum should be on the overrun , ie when the car is traveling and you close the throttle completely , like when coming to a stop without app...

Re: Vacuum gauge

If you don't have a highly modded motor or aftermarket radical cam and the gauge is fluctuating at Idle , its most likely a valve problem..which would not show up on a compression test , the valve may be seating ok when the motor isn't running , but perhaps due to a worn cam , faulty lifter /spring ...

Re: DOES A NEW CHIP/SOFTWARE WORK?

A chip is only as good as the tuner that programs it ... claims made are wildly outrageous anyway , realistically expect 5-7% power increase on a good day. All depends on what driving conditions the tune was optimised for as well...as in where you get the power..high end power is generally useless ,...

Re: Ban on used spares?!

Makes a mockery of the carbon tax , recycling old parts is about 100x "greener" in terms of carbon footprint than buying new at exhorbitant prices...and what happens if you CANT get new..scrap the car?

Re: Radiator shroud

You need shrouding in the front more than the back so you funnel incoming grille air past the radiator and not escaping thru gaps One bigger fan could be better than the 2 smaller ones ...the fan must be mounted absolutely flush with the radiator core , any standoff renders the fans very ineffective...

Re: Brakes dragging.

I might be wrong , cos I know diddly squat about brakes , but hasn't the master cyl (Or maybe booster?) got a return spring in it? You replaced that?

Re: Stall converter or not??

I think a 1600 rpm stall might be a little low ,however read these articles http://www.hardtail.com/techtips/selectingconverter.html and http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/selecting_right_torque_converter/ and another http://www.ebay.com/gds/The-Right-Stall-Tips-on-Selecting-a-Torque-Converter/100...

Re: Stall converter or not??

There is not much difference in normal driving with lets say a 2400 rpm stall over a 1200 rpm stock , it's when you put your foot down or launch or kick down that makes the difference. Ideally you want the stall to be at the HP/torque peak , but that will be a mission in a non racing car.. Just don'...
