I think the reason that the 280s are preferred is that the sixes are bulletproof.

The valve chains on the V8s get 'interesting' followed by 'very expensive' if not properly looked after. Guess how I know this....

The original radio mount for a 66 looked exactly like the clock surround, only wider.

I wonder if you could take a mould of the clock mount to get the sides right, and then extend it in the middle.
