Changed plugs and one of the COP insulators was stuck so only the coil came out. Had to break out insulator as it was corroded solid inside the plug hole. Ford does not sell them loose. My auto box was great did 500 000kms before it started slipping. Eventually took it out and converted it to manual. I hate gearboes. Never even stripped them down, too messy as you say and too much little balls and springs and rings etc. Didn't even like to have them repaired. Always bought new and ...

Cleaning those carbs was always a mission. I would first give it two scoops of brake fuid and let it run a while before I stripped it down for cleaning.
You can also check if the base of the carb is not warped. Found plenty of those 38 Webers with warped bases.

Put on the exhaust as temporary and put in a proper tune. The car went silent. Too quiet for my liking.
Will see how it is otherwise will remove the centre silencer. Also have to build a timing base for the Dual VCT and then tune from there.
Will post findings shortly.
