427 SC Cobra body mold, chassis

Post by dom » Fri 23 Jun 2017, 15:21

For the enthusiast leaning towards originality of the 60’s 427 coil spring Shelby Cobra.

Body mold taken from CCX 3-3080, which was a copy, by Contemporary Classics from CSX 3045. This was the same car that had been used as a template for the first Hi-Tech/Superformance.

Refined main tub allowing 6.4” drivers to fit and easy routing of 2” primary headers for sidepipes. Make and sell your own bodies

Start-up original 427 chassis built from Cobra Restorers plans. With 90% correct suspension, no wheels. Still needs some welding. I supply plans.

RHD steering rack

Parts are in and around Cape Town

R230.000

A very good mornig to everybody who reads this (and also those who don't):

I am close to having somebody to lay up the bodies now. That means I can offer soon:

Original style round tube Cobra chassis from the 60s. (pics on Gumtree)
Original style suspension, with "local" uprights/knuckles and brakes
Correct body with aluminium spare tire insert (that is the dropdown boot floor)

I calculate prices when the first unit is done.

It won't be cheap.

If you want cheap, buy a few rectangular tubes and copy a Shamrock or KCC chassis and buy a XJ6 for axles (costing approx. R20.000)
I am sure somebody drew up the chassis plans for that. I would ask Eli L. Make it 90" wheelbase and you can use a body from me.

Note:
A handful of brackets needs still to be added to make it even more original, but as it is my bodies or most others will be supported.
A 100% original copy costs GBP 10.000 in UK.

I get the suspension drawings and brackets which you need to finish this.

The chassis in the background is now growing into a car. I still have the chassis with the white tub for sale, and can make more.
The first body hatched out of its egg. The next one will be sellable.

I do still consider selling the mould. I know that there are plenty of such available to grow a business, but this IS different. Much more authentic, giving more room for passengers, decent intake systems, exhaust primaries.

While BDR offers the same room, if not more, with less original curves, older kits look odd and offer only cramped space.

What are your thoughts on the Superformance Cobra's?

Chevy Lumina Supercharged

SPF builds a great car, well sorted and authentic from the outside. But I prefer more originality under the body - which SPF, ironically builds, too:
The CSX 4000 Cobra. I saw such rollers for sale for under R500.000, which is a bargain. You cannot build it for less with that quality elsewhere in SA.
