Is your entry in Colin?colin davids wrote:Morning. The xr8 is finally ready so we took it to killarney for a practice session yesterday. It goes well and sounds mean but there are serious brake and cooling issues.I get deep into fifth gear down the back straight but when i touch the brakes the back end locks up and i go sliding.Nearly wet myself a few times and i have new respect for the guys who do this kind of racing. The car has lots of potential though because it eats up the straights and i reckon it will be a decent package once the brakes are sorted.I'll be getting a bigger radiator today and hopefully better brakes before the next practice. We made a short video but for some reason i can't seem to upload it here. Will keep you posted on the progress.
Cheers

Re: SIERRA XR8 RACER
Hi Killarneyracer
Yes,i have entered the car for 18 May and done my wpmc membership as well as msa licensing.I know that this coming monday and tuesday is open practice but forgot to ask when timed practice is.Also, can the msa scrutineering be done a few days before the race? This way if they have issues with the car i'll have time to rectify them. The lady in the tower could not give me a definite answer on this.I have quite a bit to get done on the car and dont want to miss any deadlines. Some info on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Colin

Re: SIERRA XR8 RACER
Colin, if the Fine Car guys have done their scrutineering and passed the car, you can go out and practice. Official scrutineering for the race takes place on the Friday afternoon before race day and on Saturday morning race day. By passing that scrutineering the car is cleared for that particular race meeting.

Thanks. That doesn't leave much time to fix whatever issues they might find but after this check the car will be legal for all future meetings so that's fine.Busy fitting bigger brakes and aluminium radiator this weekend.CanAm17 wrote:Colin, if the Fine Car guys have done their scrutineering and passed the car, you can go out and practice. Don't sweat the scrutineering. They're going to check the seat belts, any play in the steering, that the oil filter, plugs and radiator cap are wired, the battery is properly secured, no oil leaks, sponsor decals and race number of correct size, brake lights working and a few other bits and pieces.

Re: SIERRA XR8 RACER
Howzit sapph. We blew a headgasket during practice on tuesday. This was with the new aluminium radiator but i think the damage was done previously with the old rad.Got some buddies coming over tonight to lend a hand so we should be fine for saturday. The car still has a chronic rear brake lockup problem even with the bigger front brakes.Anyone else had this problem on a sierra?I reckon an adjustable brake bias valve is overkill for fine cars so any info would be appreciated.See you there.I'll be the one entering the corners sideways.sapphire wrote:Hey Collin, are you ready for Sat?

hi colin, maybe a little late already, as you are supose to practise today.
go to Floris de Kock or Herman de Kock (my dad) at the track, he races the red and white mk1 escort. tell him the rears lock up. the saphires has some sort of "resistor" bottle thing fitted in-line to the rears. not sure if the sierras had them, or if your one currently has one. this will definately be a cheaper fix than a bias valve thats around R1400.
he might even be able to help you with one.
Killarney Racer will also be able to show you who the "team Ford" guys are.
Re: SIERRA XR8 RACER
Hi Collin,i had the same problem.I just replaced the whole master cylinder and my problem was solved.
Re: SIERRA XR8 RACER
Hi Colin, ironically i had similiar issues with my car yesterday...but i have an inline Wilwood adjuster that i need to just dial in (was just doing a few slow laps to check oil pressure and water temp etc). You can always do the 'bloudraad way' like the grp N boys used to do in the old days and grind 1/2 of the rear pad away. My shipment of Wilwood stuff is about 2 weeks away, there are loads of inline adjusters in the shipment, they are about R800.00
