SIERRA XR8 RACER

Post by colin davids » Thu 18 Apr 2013, 17:00

Morning. Here are some progress pics of my Sierra Xr8 being built for fine car racing.I think my previous posts of this car were in the wrong section. The car is finally running and we took it out for a spin today with spin being the operative word.(the diff is locked). Nothing fell off and the car drives well with no cooling issues although it may be a different story on the track. There are still quite a few small things to be done, the biggest of which is the rollcage but i hope to make it for the next meeting which is a month away. I have sold the GT40 and my stockcar so i can focus all my attention on the sierra.

Cheers
Colin

i hope you are still going to fit door panels etc.
and the heater/fan box in engine bay.

why the rollcage? perhaps just a bolt in half loop. or sign the form to go without it.

BTW, is it a original XR8 or a replica?

Thanks for the support guys. Alvin, the car will run in fine cars on Killarney main circuit.I will probably delete the heater box and fit an aluminium cover. All these little bits count towards weight saving. The door panels and roof lining are compulsory for the class i'm running in and the cage is in the interest of keeping my head in one piece.I think the fine car formula is a great idea and a good way to give all those stored musclecars a workout without having to modify them too much. It would be cool to see some more v8 cars take part so if anyone else is interested i have the number for the scrutineer and he checks your car for eligibility at his premises in maitland. This can even be done during the week.Lets bring some thunder back to killarney.I know Alvin's got a few mean machines gathering dust. And yes,it is an original xr8.

Cheers

Alvin,as far as i know the cage is not compulsory as long as you sign a seperate indemnity for not having one.You do need to safety wire all drain plugs though(engine, gearbox and diff)and the oil filter and brake reservoir.I hope to take my car for scrutineering next week and then i will be able to tell you exactly what is required. The sight of two xr8's on the grid is sure to bring some v8 fans to the track. I still need some interior bits so if you or anyone else knows of a sierra with grey interior stripping for parts plse let me know.

Cheers
