Peter Gough Perana
Found an article on Peter Gough in an old Chequered Flag Newspaper with a profile on him , plus pics... to big to scan in... thought I would just attach the pic of the Perana... I assume the other Peranas are those of Flip Smit and Koos Swanepoel... Again appolodies if copyright exists on this article.

Re: Peter Gough Perana
Correct about Koos and Flip, the Paarl wine farmer as he was portrayed
Re: Peter Gough Perana
Pity for some of the changes, the bridge that's gone which would have been nice relocated somewhere else on the plot, as with the double-dekker bus.
This one's for you Henry, positive changes they removed that big Ford oval which was painted on the side of the control tower !
If you look at these cars they look like our present day Fine Cars just flared with bigger wheels.

That Flip Smit Capri I saw at Killarney could have been in the 80's Harry Reid racing it. Was red with box type flares. Heard somewhere that it could be the same car that's running at Zwartkops but with flares removed I think. Peter Du Toit buy it ? Now raced by Ben v/d Westhuizen is that right ?

Re: Peter Gough Perana
I am open to correction but I heard that Flip converted it back to a road car and kept it.
Did Harry Reid race a Perana?

Re: Peter Gough Perana
I'd also heard at some stage it was converted back to road car but other source's said it went to Jo'burg hence maybe it is the car now unflared or less flared as I'm not sure what it looks like today if the same car.
It was definitely Harry. I saw the car with the bonnet off they were working on it just sort of inside the pit gates before it was all built uo there. Henry knows more about this car.

Re: Peter Gough Perana
Didn't Reid also race some sort of Chevair with a V8 in?
Re: Peter Gough Perana
Yes was a white with green Chevair fitted with a V8. Just have'nt got photo's on hand right now. he got the car to go quite fast. It had a big wing on the back almost level height of the roofline.
Re: Peter Gough Perana
The Perana raced by Harry Reid was the ex Flip Smit Perana. This was a very early car, I think it was no 7. When Harry stopped racing it the car stood at Johan Walters' place for years on a trailer , the trailer slowly rusting away under it. The confusion with it having been returned to a road car could be that Flips wife also had a Capri Perana, which could have been confused for the ex race car.
The car was eventually sold to someone in Jhb. I presume it was Peter du Toit.
Could also have been Koos Roets who Harry was very friendly with. Harry will know the full whereabouts of the car.
Yes Harry built and raced the V8 Chevair. The car was subsequently sold to and raced by Claude Williams.
For a short while Harry also raced a Camaro in the original Clubmans in the late 80's early 90s. The rear number plate read. "My other car is a Ford".
This car was definately sold to Peter di Toit and I suspect is the white one occasionally raced by Willie Hepburn at Zwartkops.

Re: Peter Gough Perana
Must be this Camaro. That day it must have spun off here at Damps at least twice for some reason. Camaro was orange when Harry race it.
