Other Racing BMW's
Some drivers cannot stay away from racing and Vernon Bricknell is one of them. I remember him peddling this well prepared 2002 in the Saloon Car Champs and in the Springbok series. That was 40 years ago. He then went into F Atlantic with some success, more recently the Shelby CamAm series, winning it if I remember and of course now runs around in mega Kw Porsches, courtesy of his airline business. There may have been only one other BMW of this type that raced in this country at that time, just can't think of the name.

That was that odd BMW 2000 SA was'nt it ? You also had the more potent Ti-Lux or something like that which had a 2 litre with twin carbs. There was also an 1800 SA as far as I remember. Almost like a stretched 2002 with 4 doors.

Yes 2000 SA, not the 2002. It was called the Cheetah in Rhodesia. It was a bit pap for a BMW compared to the 2002 Ti and Tii
Re: Other Racing BMW's
That Tii I will never forget a friend had one in the late 70's before I understood the technical stuff. But what I do remember was it was a light metalic green was fuel injected and went a bit faster than my parents 2,5 auto Firenza. That was the special model besides the turbo of course.
Re: Other Racing BMW's
That was obviously before Bricknell had bought an airline. I remember him being a Beemer man.
Here's Ian Scheckter..............

Re: Other Racing BMW's
That must have been after the famous prang at Jukskei. They built another BMW which was flat like that and rather contraversial at the time. It was supposed to be a big revenge thing but that BMW did'nt apear two race meeting after that prang still which the V6 Escort returned to after their rebuild.

Re: Other Racing BMW's
Wasn't it when somebody came up with the idea called "silhouette racing cars"... whatever that meant
"And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."

Re: Other Racing BMW's
I remember there was some controversy specifically around this BMW I have a write up somewhere showing the whole front end pipe frame set-up. It was probably a silhouette car you're right.
Then again that 131 Fiat was not far off it looked rather flimsy.

That Escort of Van Der Merwe which went up against Scheckter's BMW 530i, wasn't that Cosworth powered?
