Arnold Chatz had the knack of preparing the Alfa 1750 and later on the 2 liter and he got them going very quickly. I think he won the Onyx Trophy, or whatever it was called at the time, a couple of times while driving them.

He may have won the Star series in JHB as well. He was a very useful driver with good car preparation.

As KR said, Chatz did very well in Alfas. He took over the reins from Basil Van Rooyen when Van Rooyen decided that Formula 1 was his goal and he raced the Alfa GTA and GTAM for the 1970 season. Then he drove the 1750 and later the 2 litre Alfa Berlina and later was the first person to drive the Alfa GTV6 in which he was very succesful.

Another driver who came through the Alfa ranks was Sarel Van Der Merwe who, at one time, drove an Alfetta.

Hi Fi

When was the Kyalami shot taken (last picture)?

Second to last picture - aaah 1971 Springbok series - with 1972 Springbok series were two magical years. Just the right mix of international and local, and where really good saloons could still mix it with the prototype sports cars. Wonderful cars like the Mazda R100, the Capri RS2600, and the beautiful Toytoa Celica. I'm just sad that I was young and had few resources, and so only saw the Roy Hesketh races live.

I'm guessing the Kyalami shot was 1972?

Wouldn't it be nice if we got a good, well restored 3.0 GTV on the classic scene? There's got to be one somewhere.

My son sold his GT Junior+/_ 1965 to someone in Cape Town a few years ago. To be prepared for classic racing. The vehicle identity number was 82390. The same as my grandpa's phone number for 50yrs.
We would like to see the car again and see the development that has been made.

Can someone put us on track to trace the car again.
In my old age...
