Re: ROVER V8 RACE CAR
Thanx for the info. I can remember when they raced here. I think one of the cars was bought by a local guy named Dennis De Wet and remained here in Namibia. Dennis also bought an Autoquip Jaguar [Ex South African Car] at some stage and it was the fastest car here for some years. It's end came when Llewellyn Anthony, who at that stage drove an Ex BMW Motorsport 325i.s. had mechanical problems, and bought the Jaguar on the morning of the race. He took it out for parctice before paying for it and on the 3rd or 4th lap, while trying to keep up with Jurgen Zu Bentheim in 'The Animal" Sierra XR-8, had brake failure at the end of the main straight and went right over the tyre wall. The car was a complete wreck. I don't know what happened with it from. I think the engine eventually ended up with a guy named Robbie Eichoff. I will never forget the Jag with big bellows of smoke coming out of it's exhaust, which was right in front of the front wheel, when it cam screaming down the straight. Possibly the best sounding V8 I've ever heard.

Thanks Gunther. I was'nt to sure if the one car stayed here but you confirmed it. Yes, it dissapeared after a while from the circuit and reapeered on Swakop's Mooncity oval track. That spelled the end of teh car. I can't remember if Robbie owned it for some time, but it might be. The last time I saw it, it was yellow and was driven by Dennis's son.Gunter wrote:okay - just saw your location.....makes sense that the pic would be of Tony Rust!!

This could have been the ex Mike Moore car, I remember it well as Mikes son and I were friends when we were growing up, vividly remember watching the car at Killarney.MFG Motorsport wrote: Dennis also bought an Autoquip Jaguar [Ex South African Car]

Morning, I wanted to find the pictures I have of it over the weekend but did'nt really get to it. But I will be looking for them and post them as soon as possible. The pictures that I have seen of Mikes Jag looks like it is the same car but I can't say for sure since I only knew the car form when it was here. If I can get hold of Dennis I might be able to know for sure. Wil try and find out. There was quite a few cars that ended up here from the S.A. race and rally circuits.

Re: ROVER V8 RACE CAR
I spoke to a guy in the UK who lives down the road from the new owner Tim Summers. The car has been put back very close to the way it was when first built. the engine now has quad side draught carbs .
