Wonder how many they sold?
It looks like they were quite sucessfull on the track.

Is it possible to approach MSA with requests regarding specific racing car history or homologation papers?

Not many left today. Havent seen a Capella in years and that is for the normal 4 cyl or rotary

I'm still not sure that it qualifies as a "homologation special" though, with merely a set of lowered springs.
Have you backtracked on the forum?

Interesting info here...

No, I didn't do a search here...and it seems I should have

Thanks for the link, Indy. If they did make 20 a month, as stated in the thread then they could quite easily have homologated them within a year...if they had to.

Question is, did they though?

The Mazda Rotary Capellas were quite dominant at the time, as it is, so am not sure whether they really needed to homologate a special track-honed model to claw its way back to the front, so to speak.

What I ask myself here is, is this a track-focus (and suitably homologated) racing special, or is it mere a "limited edition" model?

I don't know, Jaco, but I am certainly going to try. I am a member and have a racing licence with them, so perhaps this will help to open communication channels between them and me, and so pave the way for me to get a positive response from them

Very nice period pic, Gunter, thanks.

Yes, that looks like a RS, if I look at the ride height and relatively little body roll, compared to pics that I've seen of other Capellas cornering.

Wow, this car's come a long way since the way it looked here. What did you guys do about the cracked dashboard?
East Rand Plastic Repairs in Jetpark repaired the dash for us. Expensive but worth it.

I've never seen a "RS" example with the stripes on the lower sills, in the flesh, but there are a few Rotary Capella's and RX-2's about in Cape Town, prominently displaying the "RE" badges. I can post photos if you'd like.

I think all the rotary engined mazdas had the RE badge. Mine had it that time. When the engine packed up, it was normaly replaced with the 1600 or 1800 that was much lighter on fuel. Ask me, 23 liters on 83 kilos. Thanks for the link Indi, I enjoyed reading it
