Do you remember Ray Butters? Can't think of what car he drove and I seem to think he also did track racing too. I last heard he was the owner of the Muizenberg Toy Museum, but that was a while ago.

He did do some track racing, I think in an Anglia. He did own the Toy Museum but I think may have sold out and kept his matchbox / dinky collection at his house. Not sure tho'. He must be quite old now.

That brings back memories! I remember him from Goodwood. I have a notion he raced an old white Ford, can't be too sure about that. Maybe Gunter can come in here. I'm pretty certain he raced an Anglia at Killarney. Many years ago I took a ton of stuff to him at his museum in Muizenberg when I moved house. I regret it today because of the value of the goods.

Ray Butters now lives in Napier (a small little town about + - 170kms from Cape Town) and still has a 'Toy Museum' at his house in Napier.
Ray actually also started racing in the late 60's at Goodwood...now a very interesting fact for those of you with some very old programs, you might see Rays name entered under Buttercup and not Butters...Ray came from a very english horse racing family and his 'stock car activities' would not have gone down well with his parents social circle...so for awhile he raced under the alais of Buttercup!
Not 100% sure (I will check with my dad) but i think Ray's sister is Gonda Beatrix the famous horse racing lady.

That IS an interesting anecdote. When I went to his place in Muizenberg about 10 years ago, I couldn't imagine him flying around a dirt track. He seemed a very kind yet almost eccentric person. I remember the Buttercup name. In fact, I'm pretty sure the commentators used to say things about it.

Gunter, tell us about Ian Little. Didn't he also race there?
