When i was a boy my oldman used to have the exact Valiant like the one in the pamphlet. Being a Policeman and on a shoestring budget and very lus to jaag the manne he and a friend also fit a 4brl holley and a PeeWee Buys camshaft in the car. What a meanmachine. The police Regals, VIP and Rebels were not able to keep up. Even the later Datsun Zeros the police had did not manage. :D
In my old age...
i drink a tripple,i see double and i act single..

My barracuda is also running a 390 4150 Holley, with a recurved dizzy, msd6A , better exhaust 2 1/2 inch instead of CHOKE 1 3/4inch but further stock bits - the engine is incredibly responsive - which is why the all drum unassisted 9 inch setup made way for a 11 inch ventilated rotors up front and 10 inch drums at the back, - boosted config - brake fade at high speed is NOT an experience I would like to repeat

The big thing is the original design was a 170 cid 2,8L engine, which was upgraded by stroking it with 25.4mm to 225CID 3,7l but they kept the same head the poor old slant is strangled installing 1,7inch inlet and 1.44inch exhaust valves(1.62 1.36 stock) but keeping the rest the same - cr cam stock bbd - boosts output from 137 to175 bhp
adding the 390 4150 Holley into this mix gives 204 BHP with a nice set of viper headers - 228 bhp@ 5000 compared to 137 at 4500 just by letting it breathe - upping the cr to9.5, and going with a better cam - say 270 seat to seat 220@50 .435 lift -instead of 240/205/.414 gives 276 bhp@5500 not too shabby

Throwing in the Atkinson's PowerPack drops PEAK hp to 240 at 5000 but boost torque to 300lbft@ 2000 to 3500 from 280 at 4000

Hell I haven't seen one of those old Valiants for ages - almost forgot about them. A couple were raced by the stockies way back then...
