rude shops !

Post by hartlands » Mon 29 Dec 2014, 10:29

Is it just me but most shops in SA selling parts are just plain rude, I always find them not very helpful. But the worst was today, I am trying to find pertronix spark plug wires for my 351 cleveland with no luck, I called RS Perfomance asked what they had they said Moroso, also asked what air filters they had said they can not give me the brand name.... so I said thanks and will call back.
so I call back and asked them about the moroso wires can they give me the part code so I can check them out. Guy on the phone said no they can not give part numbers on the phone....what the f◆◇k!!! I said you guys are not very helpfull, he mumbled something and hung up.I own a shop and I would never not help someone with a silly thing like a part number.
its a pitty I will have to stick with ordering the items I need from overseas myself.
sorry about the moan I just am fed up with all the places I phoned.

Hi hartlands. The part no. is not what people normally ask! The make is what we need to compare prices! I got no shop but build 100's V8's in my time and never did ask a part no.???
Ask for 7mm or 8mm is normal.
Cool down as it is the end of the year.
Hope the pictures make you smile. :D

But this is typical of the service these days.

If at all possible, I have started to order parts by supplying the part number to the parts guys. I find it easier, than them having to try and look it up.

When I started my 1 st build, I knew squat. I googled some, read some. so I phoned, Motown, Stateside & Thundersport, with the same parts list requesting a quote, was less than impressed with other two but Brandon from Stateside gave me a detailed quote, follow up phone call etc, I reckon I've spent a couple of hundred thousand with them in the last 4 years already.... But he still owes me a beer!

I'm with you there Len! - I prefer to make parts, not buy them  ;) , but when I do need something Brandon is the guy.
I have heard others may sometimes be a little cheaper, but knowing who I am dealing with (and that the backup is there if I need it) counts for a lot in my book.
And to the op's point - Over the years I have had a few phone conversations with other shops that have made it very easy to never want to deal with them if I can avoid it.......

Nice pics Rassie. I like the fairlane in the background :D

I actually did not want to compare pricing I just wanted to look them up on the net so I could see what ones they where as each manufacturer seems to have all sorts.

Yes I find Stateside the most helpfull, I will call them up when they open.
