Mags for '72 Chev SS

Hi, guys

I want to replace the steel rims on my SS with mags, but don't know the pcd of the rims? Can somebody mabe help.
And maybe a name a a shop in Cape Town with a wide variety.

Any comments on pcd adapters to change the pcd to a more standard pcd.

Hi Pieter, not sure if the SS is different,but Chev is normally 5 x 120 pcd (which is the same as BMW,Jag etc) , i am based in Cape Town and i normally always have somewhere between 10 and 20 new sets of various mags for my own cars.
Most of the wheels are either for Ford or Chev....swing by sometime,maybe there is something that you like that would suit your car.

To be eaxct Chevy PCD is 4.75" = 120.65mm. Some say the extra 0.65mm matters, others don't.

Don't bother with adapters - there are plenty of wheels available that will fit.

Thanks for the feedback, problem is I tried the BMW mags and they didn't fit. Maybe the 120.65 does make a difference.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the diff is from a Holden Monaro. The car was build from a crashed Monaro and a SS body who's chassis was damadged beyond repair. Sort of a cross between the two. I would assume the pcd for the monaro is excactly the same as the SS?

Problem is for sure not 5 x 120 vs 120.65...i have various BMW and chev wheels that i have fitted on both (i have sets of BMW wheels on my Chev Lumina and 4.1 coupe).

Pieter, what i can suggest is to bring in a wheel to me (a front and a back if potentially different PCD's), i have a PCD gauge will measure for you and can
then put you on the right track.

Yeah, my '72 Chev SS had mid-80s BMW wheels on it when I purchased it, fit no dramas...

I did the opposite, put steel wheels and hubcaps back on

Very Important is the Off-set!!!!. 105-110mm. from inside rim to inner flange. For all Chev's and Holdens up to 1976. Thereafter the off-set changed with the Opel models. BMW has too much outward off-set and will rub against the inner suspension. Ask me! I paid the price!!

100% correct Johan, thats why i specifically stock as close to zero off set rims as possible for the classic cars.
Got such a pretty set of 18" x 10" wheels i wanted to fit on he GMC bakkie i bought from Fanie,unfortunately it rubs against the inside...problem is the wheels are SO suited to the bakkie i am going to narrow them down to 8" to fit.

Just a last bit of good info. With a 105mm offset you can fit a 8" wide rim with no problem and is specified as an option for my 65 Malibu. Just need a 327 to run them!
