Granada Perana questions

Post by Killarney Racer » Mon 17 Feb 2014, 15:52

Hi All

Does anyone have answers to the following questions?

1. Were Basil Green's Granada V8 conversions actually called Perana's?
2. Did they carry the Perana badges on the car and did they have the Perana VIN plates in the "normal" Perana locations?
3. How many were made, there were 4-door and 2-door coupes?

No guesses please... :)
Many thanks.

Also intrigued by your questions..... http://www.perana.org/granada.asp One or the other ZA's will shed some more light.

Ters.

ps. My Capri has an engine out of a Granada Perana, low 1000's.....
When it comes to the wife its easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission!

1. Yes, and like the Capris were approved by Ford as an official Ford product. Interesting detail: Mk1 Granada Peranas were the only Peranas launched at the same time as the standard Ford range. BG imported two from the UK to make prototypes before the ZA launch.

2. Yes, Perana plate under the bonnet with matching engine number. Perana Badges front, read and both sides. Rover V8 badge on the bonnet. I am not sure about the under seat plate.

3. Not sure, as Granadas and Capris share the same number sequence. Granada BG numbers seem to start around the low 500s and go to just over 1000. Of the overlap between Capris and Granadas - maybe 25 or probably fewer Capris in there, so I estimate about 500 Granadas. Probably slightly more Granadas than Capris. Mk1 Granada Peranas where made in 4 door, and both coupe shapes (straight waistline and coke bottle waistline). Rarest is the Coupe manual - fewer than 20. There were about 17 Mk2 Granada 4 doors. There was also one 351 Granada Perana that Basil had done as a special for his wife.

Hi Tony

I recently sold my granada perana and it definitely had an underbonnet perana tag. Also the manual will have a Perana-specific aluminium bellhousing and 2.92:1 diff ratio as opposed to the 3.5:1 in the v6.Granadas do not have underseat tags though. Are you thinking of running a v8 in finecars this year?

Cheers

Goodday Tony

Yes that is my old perana.Arnold has tidied it up very nicely and it looked good in practice but for some reason did not race.
The Xr8 will definitely be ready for this season but i am hoping to finish my Capri Perana in time because it has a few more ponies under the bonnet.

Cheers
