Post by Wiggy333 » Sat 06 Sep 2014, 12:18

Hi all I have bought a Capri Perana v8 build number 196. It's yellow with matching numbers and I am in Australia. Does anyone know where to find parts for these such as engine mounts etc and is their a parts manual or repair manual or any info really regarding the differences of these special Capris any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you Keith

Is there any reason you need to replace the engine mounts?

How can BG196 be a matching numbers car if it's running with a BG 171 motor? The Ford Tag and under seat Tag, match up with the number stamped on the shock tower. But the Perana Tag ,which is BG 196,doesn't correspond with the engine block number which is BG 171.......

Well I am sure there is an interesting story there somewhere, add this to the need for seeming need for engine mounts.

This car is well known and the genuine article. Just engine has been changed. Used to belong to a forum member.

It is BG196 all round, just with BG171 block.

Magan,if you read what is said, you'll see i didn't have any doubts of the car not being geniune.I have a problem when someone says it's a matching number car, which this car is not,as the Perana plate and the engine block nr.,doesn't correspond. The rest of the car i don't have any problems with,as i was after this car myself, the time i was looking for a Perana, but couldn't afford it then.......

Older posts about your car.
Didn't realize it was that car, a very good example. The engine number issue wouldn't worry me in the slightest.

Hi all sorry for not replying sooner but just been really busy. Firstly as for a matching numbers car all I wanted was a Capri Perana who cares if a couple of digits on a BG motor aren't the same at least it's still a Basil green motor and it runs. My main concern when I purchased it was that it wasn't a complete fake and I'm in Australia so they don't get sold very often. Thank you for the previous posts regarding the car that is gold and any more info I could find on it would be great.
As for the engine mounts they are cracked through the rubber and not roadworthy anymore I beleive. As there purpose built for the Perana has anyone been able to replace them. As for myself when I was younger I owned 8 different Capris from 1.6ltr, 2 ltr, 3 ltr, 5.8ltr. Then had family etc. only returning back now with the Perana and also have bought a v6 gt to restore as I like doing the hard work myself. If anyone knows about the original motor BG 196 would love some info on it and why it was changed but at the end of the day it doesn't make me love the car any less. Life is a journey and I'm doing it in my Capri.

Sorry have to add I purchased the Perana from the same guy in oz with Bg 266. Mine cost $15000.00 oz dollars less for the motor difference is manual not auto(my ultimate) and is just as good. Happy with the purchase. Keith
