CHEV Corvair

Post by Stingray » Mon 23 Jun 2014, 17:20

I hope someone has info on this car. My dad is turning 70 and I found out he has a love for the Corvair as he had one when he was working as a Mechanic in CT. Now I'm looking to get him one for his 70th problem is, I don't know these cars at all so what am I looking at for a good nick Corvair and any specific year?

Any info would be appreciated.

This one lives in PE. The owner has a second one as well.

There's a Corvair standing at Steimar Autobody in JHB , belongs to the owners son I think. Not sure if they will sell though, but worth a try...

They only came out in left hand drive 8O Only came out for 2 or 3 years. There are a few here in the Vaal in good running order all members of Vaal Old Wheels. When I left the Police and hitched from Durbs to PE in one of them! Weird to sit on the right without a steering.!
Suspect they were imported by GMSA. Before I started at GM. Ralph Nader's pet case!

There are a few Corvair's about, they come up for sale from time to time.

Some for sale now and recently...

Interesting though, according to Wikipedia, they were assembled in PE from CKD kits, from 1960-1962.

Hi stingray

If you have a bit of money, time and patience to spend, then here she is: a 1966 Corvair convertible........only catch is, she's here in Europe where I live. With the current exchange rate, you're looking to pay around 9000 euro(approx. R130k) which is off course negotiable.

I used the same company to assist me with importation of my Ford Mustang convertible from the States.....maybe they can help you to get it to SA??????? Speak to Ernest, the company owner if you want to pursue this further.

Here's the link to their website in Holland:
