New Slant Six Build

Post by 68barracuda » Tue 02 Sep 2014, 12:48

Hi Guys,
Busy playing with the Valiant engine again, and wouldnt you know.....I am getting closer to completion.

Build plan:
Intake - SA Police Squad Car Intake - Ram tuned 2 x 36DCD7 Webers (I am tempted to go with my dual Weber Basil Green AtkinsonsPowerpack intake - same Idea as SAPS unit, with Shorter runners)
Head - Ported Gasket Matched - combustion volumes standardized - Enginbldr Oversize valves 1.7 Inch Intake 1.44 ex (OEM 1.6/1.36) Kliners
Exhaust- this is still in the balance - either Cast Iron Dutra Dual Shorty Headers - or Locally Made Long runner setup (Viper\TNT\Cheetah) the 6 -2 setup wil feed into a dual system with an X crossover

Block:
Complete rebuild, balance, SFI bllancer - final deckhight depends on cam
Cams is also still in the air - Hopefully some one can build me that Dutra Cam locally.

The whole shooting match will be backed by a Torque flite A904 - feeding a 8 3/4 Mopar with hopefully a 3.23 ratio

All to be fitted to my 68 Barracuda - the old girl needs a Respray and New Carpet to finalize the Bodywork

Suspension have been completely rebuilt _ Koni Shocks etc, powder coated - just waiting on me to spray the engine bay before the lot goes back in. Engine K-Member have been seam welded and also powder coated.

Hopefully I will run her at Hakskeenpan in 2015 8)

I like your fitting a 3.23 diff. 8) 8) I had a 3.23 diff with the 305 Camaro 1984 motor and it put me back in the seat with the acceleration!
Just make sure of your top end speed with the right gearbox ratios ;) I had a 4sp with OD box. ;) ;)

This is an interesting build-up you are planning, are you aiming to have a replica of the Power Pack Barracuda?

I'm curious, why are you sticking with the 36 Webers?
Even on the 3.0L Essex, twin carbs would be 38's, and I believe the Interceptor had triple 42's, and it is a smaller capacity engine. Or what about triple sidedraughts?

I own both style Manifolds and the correct carbs - the combination work very well on the slant. I think I will shoot for the Police style with the longer runners on my 68. ..maybe...

The slant does not like to be over carbed. this is a under square engine with a LOOOONNG stroke - and narrow bore - You have to keep the velocities up to fill that long narrow tube.

Yes there are Many weird and wonderful options available - 3 SU's or 3 DCOE's etc - all has been done

My manifolds

Indeed - I am hunting for a 4spd manual setup so-called A-833 OR if my ship comes in I really would not mind a gear vendors over drive..But that is so far off.

Nice thing about this..... It is al nearly there!!!

The Current fitted Differential out of a late model Valiant is a heavier duty version of the old 7 1/4 - and is already running a 3.23 ratio. The 8 3/4 that is going in there is patiently waiting for its 3.23 ring and pinion, and if the my luck holds an Eaton or similar LSD spool. Same axle will be treated to disc brake conversion... while we are at it!

I took stock this weekend on how far along my projects are - was getting despondent, until i realized that I am closer to finishing up than i thought. Every month I would have something done, or order a part.

The big ones on the Cuda is the Respray, and bottom end rebuild. And then assembling the lot.

It even has a OEM Chrylser CompactAir AC unit!

Future pans may include a 4 spd manual I f i can find the correct unit - have a bellhousing and clutch
