Triumph Dolomite Sprint

Post by IndianaJones » Wed 02 Sep 2015, 08:16

The Triumph Dolomite Sprint is not well known in SA, but standard with lowered suspension, close ratio gearbox, and option of LSD, was quite a sprightly car, designed to compete with even the BMW 2002 Ti

Interestingly they were fitted with a 16 valve cylinder head, actuated by a single cam.
Introduced in 1973, they are claimed to be the first mass-produced multi-valve car.

Anyone have any experience with one?
I think there is one in PE, are there any more of them in SA?

Yes a friend of mine John Dobbins from the Triumph club had one, I was still with the club then with my TR8, another friend had a TR7 Sprint which had the Dolomite engine, 16v single cam

The Dolomite sprint is a fun rear wheel drive car and did well in rallies, nice car to drive as long as its in good condition.

That must be exceedingly rare, I see only 62 of those were built.

I saw one racing in Cape Town a few years ago.
Alfa GTV 3.0
Ford Capri Perana V8
Chevy Lumina Supercharged

Wait not for tomorrow to do what can be done today, live each day for one knows not what the next day may hold.

My mate here in the UK bought one about a year ago but it was too far gone with rust to be restored. Shame really as it was origional complete with even an origional alloy spare wheel. He sold it on to a member of the Triumph club to be used for spares.
Cheers
