Essex v6 fuel injection conversion

Post by chris belgium » Sat 04 Feb 2017, 21:09

Hello,
I have a capri mk2 3.0 XS. We modified the engine in to high compression, light weight pistons and rods, light flywheel and clutch, and it is now fitted with the twin weber 38DGAS manifold with other jetting. It has some problems when you move it arround a few times, it causes dirty plugs and will not start again. (colder plugs NGK B7ES)
We never had the later Essex Fuel injection. Can anyone help me with an intake manifold and air collectors to make the car run on Fuel injected? The picture is from an other topic, I just can not find the parts in Belgium to convert it.

Just a friendly heads-up. I haven't yet needed to source a lot of info on those fuel injection system, but I should warn you that it is not easy to find info on tuning specs, etc. or spares for the fuel injection system. There is no backup through Ford SA for such parts.

I also suspect you would have an engine similar to the original 60's spec Essex engine, which are referred to in SA as the blue block engine, AFAIK the FI system was only ever fitted to the later SA spec Essex engines, sometimes referred to as "uprated" or black block engines, and the intake manifolds differ somewhat, but can be modified to fit a blue block engine.

Still starting with the major parts, intake manifold and such of the SA system is probably easier than completely fabricating a once-off custom fuel injection manifold, even if you are later on your own setting up the system.
