What was your first V8 memory / experience
What started the wet dream / craze for you. The post on what your garage looks like got me thinking. Thought a great thread would be to think back / remenis what started it for you. Now i'm 38... but think back to my dad / stepdad / grandfathers cars. There were so many but the T bucket that my stepdad and his father and brother built started it off for me. I found and old photo. It had a Corvair motor and was a 3 speed manual. I really wanted this car as a kid. When I was in highschool I told my grandad I wanted it one day, and pestered him for ages. When I came home from the Army to find out he sold it for R25000 and it was sent on a container to Englan in 1991 I was livered!
My stspdad had a Chev 3800 with a small block Chevy V8 and side pipes, It was white with the raised airdam on the bonet and the stripes in metallic British racing green. I always burnt my leg getting out of the car. We also had a 57 Chevy in the back yard, and two Jag Xj6's. The one jag was used to rebuild the other, they were finished, but the Chevy was sold, unfinished. Also did a old Ford Prefect.
Also granpa had a Fiat Topolino, was a 500cc pink with suicide doors. Remember all the Durban car shows, reading this months SA Hot Rod, the lavatory car reminded me of the annual car show.... I'm rambling, will look for more photos and add to the thread later....

Not an 8 but found a photo of another head turner we had in the late 80's after Tony sold the 3.2 Interceptor Cortina we got the Skyline GT think it was 1987 model we got in 88? Was a real head turner and fast as hell in its day.

Nice pic. That toilet car got trashed a few years back on the way to the george show. I'll post some of my old pics soon. I grew up riding v8 tow trucks and drove one for years. Also the Scania V8 trucks when I
went to see my family in Scotland.

My memory is with Bernie Mariner in the Lark when Bernie started with Studebaker after finishing with Norton under Scott's in North End Port Elizabeth. Gordon, Cedric and I were budding young men then. You remember that Bernie got his Springbok Colours for Motorbike racing (TT) I never carried on with the route

Found some photos with the XR6 but there are always family members in the way. Will try find one of just the car. Was black with red pint stripe. If I remember correctly the Interceptor had a 3.2l V 6 with a twin carb front & rear spoiler and good mags for the times, but ours had a 4 barrel Holly.

Hi yall
Well as some may know, my ol man was a makji for Ford back in the day. He had a number of V6 Cortinas, my Mother had a few MK1 Escorts then my father started playing with Galaxies and 20ms then finally got the 67 Fastback then sold everything to get a pool for his daughters.... when i was old enough we always went to goodwood stockcars and to Killarney to watch the wesbank V8s.
V8s was the only thing i enjoyed, the sight and sounds of a V8 is enough to get anyone hooked. I WAS.
When i was in matric we got our first Fox Bodie Mustang and well we know what has happend since then.

Re: What was your first V8 memory / experience
I lived next to a drug dealer (if dagga is still regarded as a drug) and he had an IMMACULATE fairmont GT. British racing green with gold stripes with original rims and hubcaps and Jetzon Revenger tyres. Dual stainless steel exhausts. this guy used to go to durban central to peddle is stuff at night and every morning i used to walk past this car to go to school. the exhausts used to be white (the days of leaded fuel) from the drive back. whenever he started this car to warm the engine, the sound was like music to my ears. I remember travelling by bus on the higginsons highway and the fairmont went flying by with that thunderous roar. After I finished matric, i manged to by a Monaro GTS for R1500 and drove it for a few weeks but could not afford petrol so i sold it. Then there were people like Munoo Khan who had the MKI cortina V8 called the Judge and his Capri Perana which always kept us drooling over V8's. in 1985 i bought my first capri perana and so the story goes.....

I saw this guy at Killarney with a yellow Capri , he did not look as if he was from Cape Town. He also had a bunch of aliens that looked just like him helping him on his car. His car ran quite well and sounded nice too, he is the racer previously known as Chetty and all know known as Alvin. he has come a long way and still atracting new spectators to the sport. First time i saw guys from durban too.
