66 Fairlane dics brake conversion
66 Fairlane dics brake conversion
I have read all the posts on disc brake conversion posted by Johann65 that he had done on his 65 malibu. I also want to do this on my 66 fairlane, but I do not know what discs to use on the fairlane. The car is currently on 14" rims. If anybody has done this already on a fairlane or know what to use on the fairlane for the conversion's inputs will be appreciated.
Re: 66 Fairlane dics brake conversion
On the ford you will have to use Mercedes disks to go over the sideshaft flange. Mercedes is 5x 112 but the holes are big enough to go over the fords 5 x 114
Re: 66 Fairlane dics brake conversion

If possible, I would suggest that you have new pcd's drilled @ 114mm on the Merc rotors. There is enough meat to accept the Ford PCD's.hanov0 wrote:On the ford you will have to use Mercedes disks to go over the sideshaft flange. Ensures no play. What about Later Ford disc's ?

I have checked ford disks and they are all too small.
You need a disk that takes handbrake shoes on the inside hence the BM and merc disks.

Re: 66 Fairlane dics brake conversion
Is it not possible to use the front brake discs from a ford ranchero for the converion on the front drums?
Re: 66 Fairlane dics brake conversion
If you intend to convert the rear wheels then Hano's thoughts are correct and you do exactly as I did on the Kommando's rear wheels!Rein1990 wrote:Is it not possible to use the front brake discs from a ford ranchero for the converion on the front drums?
I must advise that the original rear drum brakes on the Malibu are very good and would not convert to discs unless an neccesity!!
My conversion to discs using 75 Kommando (Holden) front suspension on the Malibu was a perfect match as all the dimensions were same.
Wheel aligment was set using 1972 Caddilac data. Better roadholding and steering
Thus compare Fairlane and Ranchero data Chances are that Ford did not fiddle around
Just take your time!!!

I have completed a brake booster en master cylinder conversion over the weekend and my brakes are much better. Used a Toyota Hilux brake booster and master cylinder. Will post some pics soon.
