Slant 6 distributor

If for some reason you have had to pull your distributor and put a replacement it from another car, chances are its not going to be set right for your engine.

The distributor gear, has 13 teeth, each representing 27' of movement. So if you run out of advance or retard when trying to adjust, and moving the gear one notch up or down, still causes you to overshoot, loosen the screw at the bottom of distributor and move to centre, then you should have enough adjustment.

If you like me, had accidentally moved the crankshaft before fitting the distributor, make sure cylinder 1 is at TDC (Top Dead Centre) and timing mark lines up. Then install distributor so that rotor is pointing to around about 4 o'clock or over the vacuum pot.

If you have NO idea what I am talking about, PM me.

Ticking noise from dizzy?

Check it out in the pitch dark while the engine is running.

The distributor is a Cardone # 31-620 for 75-78 L20 engines. Is 36 total advance the max. At what rpms does your vacuum and mechanical advance take effect? also whats your engine combo? Anything like this one?James
