Now I just have more than one person can handle. One week with no workers!!! Even the extra money I payed did not help.
Yesterday I had to call help from a Lamborghini super car specialist that was unemployed and over 60. He is a Greek and super clever. He will now help me a few days a week to complete the muscle cars. Our own workers in S.A. is super useless lately. Seems steeling is a better option making money.
Our black lady work for 17 years for us twice a week and also complain about being robbed and house breaking in her area is out of control. Same she said the kids do not want to work or help at home.
The Boss of a welding company will also come on Saturday afternoons and some Sunday's to assist with the tic welding rust repairs. I also got a fitter who will come from Sunday to help me on weekends.
If we have to go the white way so be it. I will do all the panel beating and spray painting and run between the cars and help where I can.
I am not even racist and are forced to work with my kind. Our kids are also super lazy and permanent on computer games or with girl friends.
It is very disappointing to say 20 years back when I came in Durban the black workers I had were good and active. Most of them passed away and were very reliable and good workers. We will now also get a person in my road that for a fee will install cameras in my road to support with all the crime.
I will report progress after 2 weeks as Dec. is almost on us.
All the cars I took work on is still my responsibility and customers do not want to listen to our nonsense and problems.

Rassie, I cannot agree with you more.
It is extremely difficult to find good help.
I also run a one man show.
I currently have a friend who is between jobs, who assists me with the mechanical aspects. He is a great help, but the car audio side and custom fabrication is not his forte.
I have my gardener, a Zimbabwean, come in on Mondays to assist with cleaning the shop.
Last year, I had a youngster who spent his gap year with me, after his dad asked me to help out. The Dad offered to pay his salary, so his labour cost me nothing.
For two months he had his nose glued to his phone, and then he started to realise that the "Oom" is doing some rather cool stuff.
When he started to show an interest, I took him under my wing and it paid off big time for him.
He learned about vehicle security, airconditionig, auto electrics, custom sound systems, classic cars and vehicle restorations. He learned to weld and solder and wire cars and to build stuff using his hands. He was exposed to the world of a certifiable car nut and was seriously bitten by the car bug, but most important of all, he was exposed to the most diverse group of multiculural people (some multiracial friends have a weekly lunch date on a Monday in my shop and these guys are irreverent, politically biased with no concept of political correctness) where he learned that there is place in friendship for differing backgrounds, viewpoints and convictions.
I made him a deal that if he kept pulling his finger, I will supply everything he would need for a killer sound system for his car at dealer cost and he can do the build under my supervision.
The end result is that he left at the end of last year with a full killer custom sound system in his car, that I have designed for him and that he built on his own.
He entered university this year with a massive head start over his peers.
He developed very good work ethic, he developed proper problem solving skills and he learned to be able to use his hands.
As he put it to me later:" Oom, these kids are so immature, its frustrating."
If I can find the right person, I might give another school lever a chance, but that normally takes some patience and persistence.
The benefit is that I can teach him/her to work like I want them to and I don't have to untrain previous bad work habits.

JMVV, that is absolutely stunning what you have achieved. Well done for saving a young person from boredom and a limited world of phones and computers

Last week I had 3 x new guys. Very hard working. First day were super. Next day first one arrived super drunk at 8 am. I chased him and said take a day and come back. Never seen him again. Next 2 guys work 2 days well and stole tools and gone for the rest of the week. Also material missing from the chemical area. All 4 brass brushes, rust remover and 2 buckets new gone.
The white guys came one day and the welder and diesel mac. never came.
I am tired as 7 days a week is now me and plenty rain still falling in Amanzimtoti.
Now it will be time to spend on more lights and also heaters with security lights.

The other side is always relevant as well.
My boss just one day cut my salary by more than 50%, saying that the company cannot afford it any more the way it was.
Nothing has changed, but this new sentiment was put in place.
I now have to beg my friends and family for money to just honour my payments....every month.

Hi Pieter in my case my son Grant is working one year for a aircon company installing ducting and aircon. units in banks and sometimes 30 units in a factory and he is a team leader with a Hilux and the only one towing a trailer, and 1000's of tools to look after. R.130 a day!! My workers from 8 am to 3 pm and R.200 each per day!!!! They will steal but not want to work!! S.A. Zululand suck compare to S.A. Klerksdorp people where I came from 22 years back!!! It could have changed as well???
