Mk1 Ford Granada Chassis Number

Post by Granada75 » Wed 23 Oct 2019, 10:48

Hi,
Would anyone be able to tell me where I can find the stamped chassis number on a 1975 Ford Granada XL on the body shell?
Thanks in advance
Archie

You will not find any numbers on an SA made Granada. The only ID you have are the plate on the right hand side on top of the slam panel.

I can’t be certain, as I don’t have the decode info for Granada’s, but an educated guess at decoding the data plate as follows:

O = Source ~ The “O” is odd, could be correct or perhaps mis-stamped from the factory, but it is usually “C” for Ford of Britain, or "E" for Ford of Germany
X = Assembly ~ South Africa (Neave Plant)

GF = Granada 4 door Sedan
R = Year of Assembly ~ 1975
K = Month of Assembly ~ February
61087 = Serial Number
199963 = Sido number
M = Engine ~ 3.0L V6
C = Trans ~ Again the “C” is odd, the code is usually N for the 4 speed Manual, and B for the Floor Shift 3 Speed Automatic, don't know whether there was perhaps Column-shift Granadas built?

blank = Diff ratio code (don’t have that info, and this is usually a numeric code)

Trim code
0 = Monotone
F = Tan interior

Paint Code
0 = Monotone
Q = Sahara Beige

Like mentioned before I don't have Granada decode info, but there was some similarities in the Ford coding of the time.

I see in your other post, your car has a vinyl roof, this is also odd, considering the double character trim code, usually a factory vinyl roof car would have a triple character trim code, with the first position referencing the vinyl roof colour.

Thanks for the information.
In regard to the vinyl roof I was told that it was a later addition from a dealer rather than from the factory.

The C is C4 auto( US made same as in the Perana but with a different bellhousing) and D is C3 auto. This is euro spec codes but if the Granada from 72 - late 73 it has a C4 box marked C on the plate.
