BMW e30 wide body ex wesbank track car

Hi there,
I am selling my project as I dont have time or space for it. As far I know with info that has been found :

Alec Ceprnich and Peter Kaye-Eddie built the car for Robbi Smith to race. The car was sold to Tony Viana. The rules then changed in the wesbank series, so Tony never raced the car.The body was a 318i body (supplied by BMW SA, through Geoff Goddard who worked for BMW SA at the time)

Body has been completely resrayed in alpine white. All windows are with the car, uncracked e30 dash , full roll cage, the rear diffuser which covers the dif and shafts ( goes half way underneth the body) ,pedal unit, the original coilovers are still in the vehicle. I had a masters series mechanic come check the car out he says the suspension alone is worth 30k. All rollbars included.

I am looking at R30k for the car , for all its history could be worth more.

I know the guy who is selling the Toyota, he knows a lot about FIAT's. He is friends with Serge, so it could be the real thing?

As for the BMW, I thought my friend owned the real ex works Tony Viana 3 series Wesbank race car? So what car is this then that is for sale?

I attached a pic of my friend's car.

Sorry guys, he didn't want his name mentioned.

Thanks for sharing that pic Sidedraught, was wondering what the BMW would've looked like if it was ever completed.
Suppose they would've used the M88 3.5L 6cyl engine to power the Wesbank car back then, as in the M1?

I've attached a photo of a similar Corolla, not sure if it is the same one, taken in the 80's.

The current engine also seems strange, the 3.0L 7M engine was only available from 1986.
Wonder what engine was originally in the car?

I am not sure what version of the twin cam multi valve BMW engine they used, but it probably was the M88 engine. I will ask my mate next time I see him again.

That pic of the Toyota rally car is really nice, made a good looking rally car. My brother has a similar shape TRD Corolla.

The engine in the Toyota rally car also looks a little bit modern for the car. Looks like the first twin cam 2.8 or 3.0 Cressida engines to me? But I could be wrong?

I remember seeing in old Car and Wiel magazines that there was a straight six lift back Toyota rally car?

Very interesting BMW that popped out.

Robbie Smith did in fact race an E30 back then, a 333i in I think '85/86 season (see pic below).

Also in 1986 Tony Viana started racing the 745i (with M88 engine), changed to the M5 from '87 to '88. For 1989 the rules changed to allow same manufacturer engine transplants, so he built the E30 with the M88.

There was rumour that BMW planned/proposed a turbo charged car for '91/92 somewhere, but that never happened and they ended up fielding the two Class B 535i's.

Robbie then had a couple guest drives in the Ford Telstar when Sarel started racing the Mustang.

Would love to see photo's of those Class B 535i's, have always liked the E34 shape. Were they successful race cars?

Hi all

Interesting to see the Robbi Smith car. Worth chatting to Alec about it.

Not to be confused with the Viana Wesbank modified E30 either - different cars.
