Re: Ford Capri Perana V8
Very nice indeed.
My opinion........With Millions of Mustangs built in the USA and very common and with prices going in the hundreds of thousands for some basic models and in the millions of Rands for Shelbys etc , Why should the Perana or even CanAm not sell for higher prices than they do for mint examples both have a documented race history and are a lot more rare than even the Shelby Mustang or Z28 Camaro's

I suppose it's in comparison to the immaculate one for sale in Victoria, Oz for approx. R500k.

This is just my opinion, but I do however think it's way too much money for the current market value as it was at the end of the day a plain 3litre model being swopped out for a 5litre, Salisbury diff, some extra re-enforcement inside the engine bay, shocks, brakes, some decals and a Rover V8 badge to finish it off. The same went for the Can-Am which didn't even get a suspension upgrade..........it did however have that golden DZ302 motor and gearbox!!
When my father was still in the Police and working for SANAB in the Eastern-Freestate (stationed in Harrismith), they had a couple of Granada Perana's in Ladybrand which were given to them by Basil Green as test models. They were the first one's and apart from the 5,0 litre engine looked exactly like the V6 model.
One was fitted with a manual gearbox and one with an auto - according to my father, both the gearboxes lasted about a week, only to be replaced with a much more heavy duty Hurst shifter. The moral of the story is that there was nothing special to them. They were mere Company-approved modifications and not set individual models like Shelby's and HEMI's etc.
Look, don't get me wrong, I REALLY want one of each (both Capri and Firenza) as I'm both a Ford and Chev fan. But as with the Fairmont GT's, the prices have to be within margin for a willing seller, willing buyer to come to an agreement. Basically in proportion to where you reside.
This canary yellow Perana I mention "downunder" might sell for 50k AUD (R500k), but that same car will not sell in SA for that kind of money....same goes for a GT that is for sale in Oz for 50k AUD........that will not be met in SA as the Ozzies will not expect to pay that kind of money over here. I have a few Ozzies working with me offshore and they all have high respect for our GT's. They do however say that even a local ozzie 6-cylinder Falcon done up as a clone GT-HO phase III goes for more money or is more desirable than an original GT from SA..........our GT's aren't an Australian model, but mere a similarity, just like the Perana to the UK-based Ghia 5-litre. There are quite a few GT's and even an odd Chevy SS from SA being advertised in the magazines like UNIQUECARS etc. - I drool over these when they bring me some new books from Oz........too much mula though....even for the ozzies !
Note. There might be millions of Mustangs, but they made their footprint worldwide as performance runners, consistency in workmanship and back then value for money. This was known to everybody, thus the demand being so high and prices keeping steady throughout.

Re: Ford Capri Perana V8
I know this car well and have plenty pics of this car when it was still in S.A.The starting advertising price was R300K.It was on the market for a very long time and my guess is it sold eventually for around R220-250K,when the owner exported it to Australia.V8 fan wrote:I suppose it's in comparison to the immaculate one for sale in Victoria, Oz for approx. This is a non matching nr.car, although the block was stamped with the BG266 nr,to make it a matching nr car.I have a photo with proof of the license disc, which clearly shows a different engine nr.So somebody is getting caught out big time.........
