Apprentice wanted

Post by Garage » Fri 08 Jun 2012, 10:12

Looking for someone to come work in my shop.

Build custom cars and bikes all day long, learn sheet metal shaping, and get to look at my happy face.

That is the plus side.

Reality is it is often dirty, hard physical work, the boss is an asshole, the pay isn't much and it really isn't much like what you see on TV. But the job satisfaction is great.

Seriously, I am looking for someone with passion, good with their hands, hungry for knowledge, and with the right attitude and personality to fit in. The rest you can learn.
Mostly fabrication and sheet metal work, but some basic mechanical stuff too.
This really is going to work best for someone within 20-25kms of Stellenbosch.

Anyone know of someone, please get in touch.
Barry

Barry,
I wish you the very best in your quest - success would help restore some faith in what seems to be a dearth of quality workpeople in today's plastic and superficial world where shit service reigns supreme and seems to be the norm.
I hope you can make a difference.
Cheers,
Doug

Thanks for the replies..

Gordini you're never too old...
Doug I hear ya - making a difference I don't know, I just want to make cooler cars and bikes than what I see being made is all...
John - cheers mate ;)
Russ - If you are serious, get in touch & lets talk. No guarantees of course. And dreams can turn into nightmares if you're not wide awake......

But right now we have:
A 34 Ford Coupe - scratchbuilt everything, going for a very traditional influenced rod; not a piece of billet, three stage paint, jag suspension or any of that easter egg stuff in sight.

49 Hudson Coupe that will be a slick traditional 'sled in the Ayala brothers / Valley Customs mould. There will be PLENTY done to this, but all subtle stuff that most won't notice.

Our shop truck 41 Ford is an ongoing rolling build.

Our 29 Model A inspired swept tail track roadster. Again pretty much a scratch build with some really trick features. Won't see this at your local streetrod club meet.....

Three of these are supposed to be in Kimberly next Easter 8O 8O ...so whoever signs up is going to be in for quite a ride in the next ten months!!

Oh and there's a few boardtrackers & cafe racers in the works. As well as smaller customer jobs. And about another 3 or 4 of our own projects in the wings.

Sounding like fun yet? Unless you're starting work at Troy Foosington's shop next week, this is an opportunity that won't come around again in a hurry......

Hope it is filled before then, but if you're moving let's talk anyway!!
