"GOM" thread!

I would like to start a "Grumpy Old Men Thread" where members can post a pet hate
of our modern society, or just vent a little...

I'll start ...
1. People switching on their hazards, stopping in the middle of the road as if all else should
also "pause" with the little button.
2. Self righteous (holier-than-thou), arrogant (an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities) people.
3. People who jump traffic lights, especially when they had enough time to stop.
4. People that knowingly and willingly screw you.
5. People who just have to overtake you and then cut across right in front of you to try and make the offramp.
6. People who think my open window at a robot is an invitation to beg from me.
7. Not saying please or thank you, ignorance towards a person.

Ters.

ps. no age limit!

Following distance - what following distance? These guys can teach minibus taxi drivers a thing or two about tailgating.

My example of this UK stuff: 4x4 parked mostly on the pavement - never mind that the pavement is only 4 foot wide and in the busy shopping area. Pedestrians can almost not get by. The part of the 4x4 that hangs out onto the raod still blocks the lane - road is very narrow too. Driver jumps in and starts to pull away, nearly hitting a car, cos she assumed the car would give way. Me next, still tries to squeeze in. Note no indicators. Then she hoots an screams at me for being impolite.

Or my favorite peeve - the rules of the road and traffic priorities are well known, but people will 'politely' stop when they should go and then get annoyed when you choose to obey the traffic laws.

In the sane vein - when poeple 'politely' hold the door open in a shop or office when you are 10 or more metres away - you are expected to break into a jog so as not to keep them waiting. On a bad day if I am feeling mean I will speed up a bit, then 'suddenly' see something interesting in the shop window and not make it to he door.

OK: some dipsh*t driving a big rig almost tailgating me in in the rain; no less @ 65 MPH when I'm slowing down to avoid possibly spinning out of control in a flooded wash...........especially since it's illegal for 18 wheelers or any other vehicle pulling a trailer to drive above 55 MPH in California (I live where Calif, Nevada and Arizona meet).

Well some of you have already mentioned a few of my big peeves. Jumping red lights, stopping when you should be going, parking on pavements like you're Rambo...
Another I see every day is this tendency to cut in front of trucks, big trucks moving at whatever speed, just before you have to slam the brakes for a red light or stop sign. Isn't logic screaming at you that that truck can't stop as instantly as you can?
Cellphones. Just stand outside our shop for a few minutes. The amount of people who get into their cars, start, and as they pull away, put their phones to their ears is alarming.
Since I spend most of my driving days in the measly little Aveo, I come across so many SUV's and Bigger Cars that will nearly run you off the road, regardless of the fact that you're doing quite some kms over the limit.
And people here don't know how a mini traffic circle works. At all. Some stop completely, others don't at all.

Enough now 8O

1. Ignorant arrogant arseholes in Toyota fourtuners, doublecab bakkies and other big SUV type vehicles, that have to drive faster than everyone else and overtake everyone.
2. People that drive up your arse when you are in the right hand lane, even if you are going to turn right up ahead
3. People who stop or turn without indicating.
4. Taxi drivers in general(there are good ones too)
5. People who think they are more important than others - Everyone is equal in the eyes of the Lord.

DC, Point 1 is even worse if you drive a smaller car...

* People who can't keep a constant speed, especially on the highway.
* Large rigs driving in every available lane.
* Double-parking, and in effect blocking at least one lane, and whoever happens to have parked in the bay next to you.
* Hooting at someone who's busy/trying to parallel park.
* On very wet roads, people coming past you at high speeds, splashing your windscreen with waves of water, blinding you completely. These are usually the same people as in DC's Point 1.
