rochester or holley

I am needing a few suggestions on which carb is better to use.I am looking
for better response on pull away when accelerating on my 455.

would have to bolt one on to see if the rochester leaves two black lines or hesitates
when applying full throttle.Got to get that get away car responsive especially when its got big cubes.

Hi Graeme, try a 750 double pumper Holley and you will smoke those tyres . I had a 650 on my 400 Trans-Am and it works. Cheers Rassie.

Hi Graeme,

First off, piss cool car!!!!! My 2 cents on the Rochester, and it really is just 2 cents because I really don't know much/anything about tuning a carburetor, is that they are really not that difficult to rebuild. When I had the monaro one of the first things I did was to buy the Hayens manual on the quadrajet as well as a kit from CarburetorCity in joburg somewhere and started rebuilding the roch. The biggest problem I had was that my roch's airhorn plate thingy was sligthly warped. But half an hour or so with some fine grit water sanding paper on a piece of glass and it was almost as good as new. The kit really installed easily, and afterwards even the power pump or accelerator pump thingy worked like a charm and at least removed the hesitancy when blipping the throttle.

Anyway, I just think that if I could semi successfully rebuild a rochester then basically ANYBODY could. (Ps and my neighbours will confess that I do like it a lot when the secondaries are sucked open on highish revs!!!!!)

Hi Druss,took apart a rochester the other day couldnt get all the needles
back so I left it,will have to look into it.Enjoyed the show in potch this year
I took my 67 Rambler Rouge,the one that features in the events column.
What a great drive I had from Joburg,I just sold the car to my buddy and
bought another impala,I guess Im addicted,I cant stop with these cars!

I hear as far as ease of tuning the Edelbrock carbs are the best but I am far from a carb expert...
