Spraypainting advice needed
I want to re-spray the outer of the Opel with the same colour. Will it be OK to just flat and spray? I have removed the striping, the car looks better in original setup!

Re: Spraypainting advice needed
Hi Oom Johann
In my experience, I have only used primer when i have sanded down to the metal.
I think if you are purely going to flat the current layer of paint it should be sufficient as a base coat.
3 coats of opel white and mayb a clear coat
my 2c

Re: Spraypainting advice needed
Hi
It all depends on what level of restoration and repair you are looking to do.
Yes you can sand down with 800 grit paper and clean it with a good quality degreaser and then lay on new base and clear coat. But if you have any paint chips, deep scratches that your 800 grit cant remove that will show in your BC/CC.
The other way is to paint the car with a MS primer which is a high build primer which will fill in all those imperfections but then you have a LOT more work with blocking it down through the various stages of 300/400 down to 600/800 grit.
So yes you can do what you are thinking but if you are looking for a quick fix.

Thanks Marnus and Brennan,
I will make use of both methods by filling the few chips with MS primer and not the whole car
And then decide on whether 2K, Duco, BB/CC. Do you get a white Primer?

Re: Spraypainting advice needed
If the car is just a solid white, 2K should be more than ample and allot simpler if you want to attempt this at home. Duco has a short life span. Base coat clear coat shows up imperfections quite aggressively. Also like brennan said, use a good degreaser. Have allot of clean rags that doesn't give off fluff. Wet your floor if you are painting in your garage. This will keep dust from rising up and sticking to your nice fresh paint job.
Times fun when you're having flies!
Re: Spraypainting advice needed
Is the current paint original. I prefer to have the original paint.
Magic happens.
Re: Spraypainting advice needed
Thanks for the new advice! I am thinking of going the 2K route to keep the finish as close to original as possible!!
Other finishes will not match the interior. I am also considering Duco Gloflow. Good paint supplier in the area
The Original paint is Plascon! Was part of the team helping to select a batch of sample plates for marketing to decide on!
Wapping the garage is a must!!
