Power per Rand, best engine?
I’d like your suggestions guys.
Horsepower per Rand, which engine, overs the most bang for your buck?
Virtually any internal combustion engine, petrol or diesel, N/A or turbo or supercharged, 6-cylinder or V8 or whatever, boxer or rotary, new or used or rebuilt, does not have to be standard factory setup, can be a custom build.
Only limitations are, a minimum power output of about 180kW/250hp or (not and) 400Nm/300 lb-ft of torque.
Must be in a usable condition, as bought or as build, whereby I mean, must be able to be connected to an engine dyno, and produce that power, and be street-able, no race-only engines.

Lexus 1UZ-FE. V8. 6 bolt mains and over square.
I cannot believe how cheap and plentiful they are in ZA. For example ECU wired, ready to go, VVTI, rated 216kW and 407Nm = R17 500 (see pg125, Speed and Sound, May 2016)

What BHP and torque does a 2jz make?

Re: Power per Rand, best engine?
Interesting, 3 posts and all Toyota
I assume the 2JZ's you suggest, would be the turbo-charged version, 3.0L 2JZ-GTE...
Thought the 1JZ-GTE (2.5L) would offer even more bang for your buck, as it's much cheaper to buy initially?
Keep the suggestions/opinions coming...

Me, I'd rather have a Chevy LS engine.
Alfa GTV 3.0
Ford Capri Perana V8
Chevy Lumina Supercharged
Wait not for tomorrow to do what can be done today, live each day for one knows not what the next day may hold.

Re: Power per Rand, best engine?
OK, I know, a "best" anything is subjective, in this case, where a lot of engines could meet the limitations, it probably boiled down to which would be the most reliable, and then a Toyota engine does take some beating.
But I really thought this thread would get more varied views, perhaps some more out of the box thinking.
What about something like a Detroit Diesel or Cummins 6BT? Completely too expensive to be in a best bang for the buck list?
What about a custom turbo Falcon 6-cyl? Or supercharged Mopar slant-6?

Re: Power per Rand, best engine?
I think there are two tracks here, with vey different outcomes:
1. 'off the shelf': buy it, install it, use it
2. 'build it': buy it, modify it
I thought you were asking 1. hence my reply of 1UZ-FE
If we are talking 2. then yes 2JZ.
Another good base for a high power motor is the Ford SOHC modular V8. Like the 2JZ they can be super/turbo charged to reliably make huge amounts of power with almost stock internals.

I donno, but as an overall package the Nissan GT-R is hard to beat. i recently bought one, 2013 model, paid less for it than a new BMW M4. Software and Y-pipe, rear section of exhaust 434kw on the hubs.
You must see what it does to a stock current BMW M5 on a rolling start. i think current generation car/engines nothing beats it on bang for the buck.
