Looking for my first American muscle car
Hi guys
Am looking for my first American muscle car. My heart says that an E type body Plymouth Barracuda is the "bees knees". But, reality sets in and I'm reminded that the chances of finding one in SA is slim to none so the only way may be to import one and then "bastardise" it by converting it to RHD. Right now I don't want to spend more than a R1m as I think it may not be a true investment but perhaps more of a "I want a nice toy" purchase.
So, I'm open to alternatives given that I like the wide and low look of the E type bodies with the very sexy curves out to the back, typical of the early 70s Cuda and Dodge Challenger.
Another alternative is looking at something like the Pontiac GTO - there's a nice '69 model for sale in Cape Town. Anybody know this car and what are your thoughts? It feels a bit pricey at R1.15m?
I'd appreciate any advice and things to look out for, especially bearing in mind that I don't have any experience with these cars. Things like dependability, availability of parts and a good mechanic to service it is also high on my priority list.
Thanks for your input!

Ex Gaeme, now with Brad?
Don't settle for anything else than an e-body then... They are available in SA, registered and licensed as left hand drive, no need to convert to lhd then. 1 Bar is not going to buy you one unfortunately....

There was a green 1972 Cuda that sold in Cape Town - back in 2014 at Motostars I believe and it was listed for R400k (could be wrong). I've heard it had a few mixed parts but was a good car. Either is was ridiculously cheap or?
Re: Looking for my first American muscle car
Definitely more than 2 e-bodies in SA.... I will inbox you my contact details, and will ask on our Mopar Owners Group.
The 400K one, never saw the add....shells sell for that much sir.

If you don't find an E-body, this would be my vote by a country mile...

The 70 Oldsmobile 442, at Yesterday's Classic in Somerset West, should also still be for sale, similar price.

Green 72 sold for 550k not 400 and it's a nice car.
They're out there, network!
I think R1mil is a good budget!

Thanks JP!ChevelleJP wrote:Private message me. I have "a list" you might be interested in.....
Thanks for the correction. Interestingly enough, my broker spoke to Vantage and they do not want to insure a Plymouth Cuda for more than R700k - according to their research they're not worth more than that.Burnthosetyres wrote:Green 72 sold for 550k not 400 and it's a nice car.

So, perhaps you're right.
