Hi Paul tried to have another look today, am struggling ,need to put it on a ramp, will do that in spring when no salt on the roads, will let you know how I get on Colin
Am actually amazed a 302 fits into a Tiger. As Paul said in some instances the traffic department would assign engine numbers. Would the engine number not be on your vehicle registration papers?

Yes the Engine number is down as CS386 guess this will be direct from the SA paperwork,up to now cannot find a number like this on the engine block, Chassis number is correct as is the ALP number they use on CKD Tigers
I think if I am right the 260/289/302 all the same size? so it fits as well as any other Tiger engine which is tight!!!

Hi Colin, the engine number is at the top of the block behind the right hand head looking from the front of the engine. Is the rear of the engine under the front valence blocking your access? I will take a pic of my engine if it will help? My engine is currently out of the car.

Speaking about Tiger's, I am driving one in the next few weeks for an article I am writing, this one has been fully restored and is immaculate. The owners tells me "Id have this over any MG and any E type".

Thanks for this, be interesting to see what you think! MG not in the same class! E Type another thing! In UK 1965 the Tiger was only about £200 cheaper, lot then I guess? See what you think!! Colin

Really enjoy it. Have to get used to the rather large steering wheel and the sense that there is really too much engine for the car but huge fun to drive but definitely demands your respect it because I suspect it would bite quite quickly of one took too many liberties, especially around corners.

A very underrated car I think.

Thanks for the update, glad you enjoyed it, thought you would! I find it very low geared so best use 4 gear most of the time!! in 1965 Peter Harper rallied it in bad snow on the Monte Carlo finished 5th now that's fantastic skill and very strong arms required!!
