Re: The official Moering Tool 280zx restomod thread!!!
Thanks once more!
Nice trick with the lawnmower motor - sounds like a good plan.
I have a fairly newish bench grinder and an old single-sided grotty thing I inherited that works but makes a hell of a racket. Probably needs new bearings, I'll see if I can maak a plan. It's compact and will work well as a buffing station. Although I could probably use a wire wheel as well.

Gold teeth??? show me , but do not take them outters wrote:Then for any suspension rubber: http://www.sydsuspensionparts.co.za/services If they do not have, give them a sample and they cast or have manufactured.
Get hold of an old lawn mower motor (lectric) and mount it on your workbench. Prefer more than 1kw. Buff wheel screws into the shaft where you normally have blade. I buff anything with mine, cutlery, gold teeth and chrome trimmings.

Re: The official Moering Tool 280zx restomod thread!!!
issues.
The one carb has a brass throttle shaft, and its stop was not adjusted properly. long story short, the shaft now has a twist after a putfoot and the one butterfly has a slight kink in it. Had a lovely time removing it all without damaging the body.
I have managed to correct the twist but the butterfly is another story. If I can't sort it I will need to replace it or I will never get the carbs synched.
Joy!!!!

Re: The official Moering Tool 280zx restomod thread!!!
This morning I am one minute out of my driveway and I spot something that looks familiar!
A black ZX 2+2! I gave chase to get a closer look, luckily the car turned into a driveway and I was able to stop to have a chat with the owner and take some pics.
High school lightie! His ZX has a few dings, rust and damaged plastic but is otherwise in good shape.
Lucky kid! He wants to sell the wheels and I advised him to hold on to them instead. This one is a t-top! I sure hope for his sake that he doesn't have any leaks, t-top rubbers are unobtanium, even overseas.
The ZX 2+2 looks REALLY good in black. It's been a year since I was able to walk around a complete car and have a good look at it again. Guess what's happening this weekend! Spanner gooi!!
It has a red interior but a mish-mash of red/black trim. The red interior looks pretty snazzy to be honest, not like the whoremonger's car I imagined it would.

Re: The official Moering Tool 280zx restomod thread!!!
One down, two more to go! Remember these?
I spent a pleasant Sunday on my sunny stoepie.
THIS is AFTER a petrol wash, a soak and scrub in hot detergent (thanks for the tip, oom Johann!) and plenty of carb cleaner. The alloy was stained with what I can only imagine is cooling system rust. Also, the fuel inlet was caked with what looks to be some sort of alkaline salt. The rust and the deposits laughed at carb cleaner.
Jou ouma, I said, and made a weak solution of HCl pool acid.... a few minutes and a stiff brush later (and loud protests from a cut in my cuticle), and I was satisfied that they are CLEAN.
A lick of engine enamel, some brightening up of the hardware, some judicious use of a razor blade, and voila!
As you can see, most of the brass fittings are a bit mangled, and I will eventually get new stuff. For now, all they need are a service kit each.
I reckon it looks pretty spiffy if I may say so myself!
