The attention to detail is awesome but very time consuming. I am sure you are in no rush and you shouldn't be, just wondering if you have a goal/target date?

Thks Barry.. I dont have a target date, I thought I would be finished this year but I dont see it been painted before Sept/Oct and then assembly another year at least... End of 2019 perhaps sooner.. :roll: 8O

Hi, yes I am still busy with it, been a lot of work done which does not translate well into photos. I am doing some painting on the interior and engine bay and should have some pics to post in the week or next. I am indeed going quite slow at the moment making sure I got everything done correct. A lot of blocking and sanding which is quite boring. I promise it will get a lot more interesting over the next month.

I know the feeling often like 2 weeks have passed and I want to take a photo to document the progress but there nothing photo worthy. And some things just take time. But in the end when you’re cruising in it and having the biggest smile on your face, the 2,3 and sometimes even 5 years of stress frustration and toil is but a distant memory..... may the force be with you!!!

Hi All,

Ok here we go as I mentioned been a lot of work going on but block sanding and stuff does not translate well into photos.

Last weekend I had the interior painted. As previously mentioned the seam sealer and paint overspray patterns were followed as per concours mustang factory procedures and look back in Dearborn of 1966.

It may look a bit strange as some areas have overspray and the likes but this how it was done. I am also very happy with how the colour Dark Moss Green came out on the car. Never seen it in person only in photos. Its quite vivid in sunlight and almost black in shadows.

Needless to stay I am beyond happy how things came out, paint really finishes off the hard work thats been put into a project and you do wonder how its all going to translate and come out.

Some interesting observations in the pics are that in the boot the silver/ metal, dolly markers were kept, this is where the car was mounted onto the assembly line dollys and never received any paint. The same Dolly marks have been kept on the floor trolley were I mounted the car and once I remove the trolley which was mounted in the factory correct locations additional dolly marks will also be revealed later when I take the car off the trolley.

Also is all the seam sealers, some sprayed others poured like in the boot, creating a heavy run like finish.

The Dash and interior doors have also been painted final colour which is Black or correctly known as Dark Charcoal Metallic, I had to request this paint code and finish from USA and is a semi matte finish almost like a camera case finish. Door pads match perfectly and the stamped grain in the metal ties up and match the vinyl door pads.

Next we finishing off prepping the external body for final paint. We are 90% done with the blocking and now just going through double checking, any small flaws to to be rectified and also drilling of all holes into body for badges / emblems, trim attachments. These will all be placed with pins and nuts as per original not the stick on type trim used often these days. So to get all done perfect now so the car can be painted and not have to drill later.

I have attached comments to the photos so you can look at pic and refer to comment to help explain what we were trying to achieve and go for with regards to the original factory finish.

interior colour doors and dash - Dark Charcoal Metallic. Its a semi gloss blackish finish with metallic in it. A perfect match with the black door pads that will come on later when assembling the interior

Paint looks great but I would be quite worried about chipping it when working in the car for example putting in seats dash and other interior trim. I know it would be hidden but still.

Hi, well thats the way the factory did it so thats how we are doing it. Will just need to take lots of care, blankets will be going down in there to prevent any unwanted scratching or damaging when working in their that is for sure. Also carpet goes down before seats and other trim so I think it should be fine. Yes nobody will see it but we are going concours original here. :D

In line with your true factory rebuilt philosophy and the comments I accept that you are not going to

apply all those sound/heat barrier silver applications under the carpets. Those were in any event never used

by factories those days? It was only undercarpet with the carpet on top ?

Thks Johan, yes you are right no silver tin foil going in this build :lol:

If I recall there is some sort of sound deadening pad that goes under the carpet but I am a VERY long way from thinking about that as the upholstery will be near the end of the build. Not 100% certain on that will need to do a bit of homework. Thats always the challenge with a build like this in that you have to do your research and homework before doing the next thing. I have made a few errors whereby I thought something was right only to find out I did not my research properly. I owe everything I have learnt to the guys at the Concourse Mustang Forum in the USA, extremely helpful with their knowledge and time.
