'49 Ford
Re: '49 Ford
Why Ford did that crap I'll never know: the 1980's 302 HO (at least the 1982-85 carb'd version) used the 351W firing order.

Some good and bad today
The good. Filled the diff and gearbox with oil. Tomorrow will run engine and get gearbox oil to the correct level.
The bad. While starting the car, the accelerator pedal got stuck a few times. On inspection I found that somebody had changed to rod behind the pedal to a 6 inch nail.
I will sort this out tomorrow too.
I also need to source a speedometer cable for the C4 box or a picture of the end that goes into the box.

Re: '49 Ford
Another two good weekends.
Last week I got all the new wiring done for the headlights, indicators and hooters. Also got the car running on its own steam. Found, what seemed to be an air bubble in the petrol pump.
This week I removed all the wheel cylinders and master cylinder so as to have them overhauled.
Also learn't today that you cannot remove the rear wheels by jacking the car up under the diff. You need to jack the car up under the chassis so as to get enough space around the wheel well.

Another good morning.
We drove the Ford out of the garage and then reversed it back in, even though it was very slowly.
As we have zero brakes on the car. It just means the gearbox and driveshaft are ok.

A 3 day weekend, so lots of work.
Refurbished master cylinder and resleeved slave cylinders all replaced
New tappet covers and correct length dip stick replaced
Started to build the floor around the C4 box.
Bled the brakes but have a air leak somewhere. This will have to wait for the next 3 day weekend.

Re: '49 Ford
Another 3 day weekend and I promised myself I would drive the Ford on Sunday.
Well the driving came sooner than I thought.
Maybe a visit to the EFCC last night, and seeing a '51 in all her splender urged me on, as today was my Fords first driving day.
We tried bleeding the brakes again with no luck. So we stripped the still leaking master cylinder, this after a 3k overhaul (MC and Wheel cylinders), only to find that all the innards were put in the wrong way.
I have rebuilt the floor around the gearbox, which I am very proud of, so watch out Barry (Garage), there's a new sheet metal worker on the street.
My son wasn't happy with his "Z" shaped accelerator to Carb linkage so, no trouble to him, he turns the carb around 180 degrees to get a straight link. This actually works very well now.
All that needs to be done is to lengthen the petrol pipe and the vacuum advance pipe and we're A for Away.
After all this, at 16h30, the car drove down the street under her own power.
I am so happy, I could drive all night.
