Custom Paintwork

Post by IndianaJones » Sun 31 May 2015, 11:58

Found the article below on "Calbrook Colours", in a 1978 Wiel magazine.

Looks like they did a lot of custom paintwork on any type of vehicle, including the "Dazzle Datsuns".

First, I would like to know, do they still exist? And please feel free to add any interesting stories you might have on the company.

Second, who still does the old skool, hot rodding custom paintwork anywhere in SA, the stuff you see on the "Counting Cars" TV Show?
Candy, Scallops, metal fake, pin striping, ghost flames, gold leaf, lace, etc, etc?

Don't know Galaxy Customs, but would love to see some of their own work.

Seems like there is a definitive gap in the market for someone to open a specialist paint shop then, I know there are some very good airbrush artists around, wonder if any would be interested in learning and applying the old school techniques?
And what happened to the guys that painted the rods of the early 80's?

If you don't mind, please do an intro in the relevant section, and post some pictures of your work.
We would love to have someone with knowledge of the old school custom way of paintwork on the forum.
It would be great if you can share your wisdom here.
