Hi All,
I am planning to start a build on a 1971 Opel Kadett Coupe. The car will be arriving from Cape Town on Thursday (if no delays on transport). I will post photos of the car when it arrives.
I would like to ask forum members for some advise.
I am going to install a Superboss 2l engine and I have been trying to find out what is the best gearbox to use for the rear wheel drive conversion with this engine. I would like to use a 5 speed box.
Has anyone done this before or has information regarding such a conversion in SA?
Regards
Gareth

You can perhaps speak to the Lotus 7 guys who have used the 20XE motor in their RWD set-up.
Good luck with the conversion...that thing's gonna go like stink!

Almost any European engine Opel/Vauhall RWD box should fit.

You have multiple options.
Easiest is the Opel R25 / Getrag 240 gearbox out of an Opel Rekord.
You can also use the Toyota "21R", the Formula Supercars guys use either this or the Getrag gearbox.

I believe most Lotus 7 or Locost guys use the Ford Type 9 gearbox.

Claude Williams race the ex Kosie Swanepoel one..... think he is using the 21R Toyota box, you would need to modify the sump. Suspension and brakes would need an upgrade from the stock stuff - but once done, you will have a nice 'toy'

After quite a few delays, weather, jackknifed trucks blocking the way, bust water pipes, the Kadett will arrive today.
Can't wait to get cracking on this project.
